My husband and I were greeted by courteous staff. We had a 15-minute wait to be seated and it was observed that tables could have been cleared more quickly.
Food was served in reasonable time, which was excellent considering it was a full house. The serving size was more than adequate. Our Steaks were cooked to order (medium rare), well seasoned and grilled to perfection. My Chimichurri sauce tantalised my taste buds with spice. It was much preferred to my husband’s creamy sauce that did not have the flavour of Peppercorn. Best place to eat Steak in Kingston right now for a reasonable price. Best place in Jamaica? Marguerites Seafood by the Sea in Montego Bay!
Cocktails disappointed with no banana for my Hummingbird and no mint leaves for the Mojito. We also heard someone shout that there was no more steamed rice. Mega Mart is just up the road. No excuses.
Also, after so many years of going to this restaurant, I still have difficulty reading the menu and would appreciate more lighting while dining. String lights and perhaps uplighting from the garden and sides of the pool would suit their rustic-garden ambience.
Why is South Avenue Grill Buzzing with Diners?Â
It is no white glove service and plating is far from extravagant, but service is decent, food is in abundance on the plate, it tastes good and the price is right!
Our waiter, Kenyon was a bit nervous, but quite attentive and hospitable with a touch of humour. I would be happy to return and have him or one of the other pleasant waiters or waitresses serve my table.

Suga interviewed Director of Service Projects of Rotary St. Andrew North, Kecia Taylor on September 9th after their Health Fair, which was held at the Chetolah Mel Nathan Educational Centre in Hannah Town the day before. Suga had some interesting finds.
What is Rotary?
Rotary is a non-profit organization that uplifts less fortunate communities via various community service projects and other social activities.
What is the significance of September to Rotarians?
September is the month where Rotary members, known as Rotarians focus on literacy and basic education.
Why Chetolah Mel Nathan Educational Centre ?
The Mel Nathan Preparatory School (1994) and Chetolah Park Primary School (1908) were merged under the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information on September 1, 2018 in order to maintain viability. Both schools are located in Hannah Town, West Kingston in an area with low socio-economic conditions, plagued by violence and water shortages. Mel Nathan Preparatory was established through the charitable trust of Mr. Reynold Scott of the Scott Foundation, a human development agency of the United Church in Jamaica and Grand Cayman while Chetolah Park Primary was a school operated by the Ministry of Education.
What was Rotary St. Andrew North’s plan to help Chetolah Mel Nathan Educational Centre?
Instead of the expected Back to School Stationery Drive, Director of Service Projects of Rotary St. Andrew North, Kecia Taylor decided to take a more holistic approach to education, focusing on Health and Wellness.
Rotary St. Andrew North’s assistance to Chetolah Mel Nathan Educational Centre?
The Rotary Club of St. Andrew North embarked on a two-part project with a value of $1,000,000JMD. They handed over back to school supplies and computers on September 3 and conducted a health fair on Saturday. September 8, providing medical, optical and dental screening to the students.

Did you know?!
Interestingly, in discussions with Principal, Tamara Rowe during planning, most students already had school bags but did not have the essential items such as books and pens. If this is the case across the board, parents may have it all wrong.
Age range of Students
Students are as young as 3 years old and the oldest included students who just left the school after sitting the GSAT Examination, but they still benefited from the health fair.
Level of Participation
The majority of students did not get their medicals as yet and 125 parents showed up at the Health Fair between the hours of 9am-2pm, where some had 2 or 3 children.
What were the logistics to aid children on the day?
A sequential numbering system was assigned at the gate and registration proceeded in that order. At registration, Rotaractors (Ages 18-30 in Rotary’s youth arm Rotaract clubs, New Kingston and U.W.I Mona) and teachers assessed immunization records and commenced the completion of the Ministry’s Health Form. Each child was also assigned a ticket for a snack and optical assessment.
The Rotary Club of St. Andrew North and the U.W.I Rotaract Club recognized September 8 as the day to improve the literacy of our children by donating books to the newly merged school and reading to the students while they waited to be ushered to the medical teams.

All 125 children received medical, dental and optical assessments.

A lot of the children were immunized, but have never seen a dentist.
Teeth cleaning was performed on 32 children, using all the time available on the day. Gift packages were distributed to maintain and encourage good dental hygiene.

What will happen to the Children who need further optical assistance?
The parents were advised to seek assistance at the neighbouring area clinics.
However, Rotary St. Andrew North is looking at other detailed optical assessments and prescription eye glasses as a continuation of this project and will be looking at the continued needs of the school.

Thanks to everyone who came out to support GW Art at Art Wednesdays last night at the Reggae Mill Bar!
Art Wednesdays was inspired by Swizz Beat’s No Commission movement that started in Miami during Art Basel 2015.
Fairs showcase artists without charging a participation fee and taking “No Commission†on any sales.
No Commission was inspired to create a platform that is 100 percent for the artist. At the time Swizz Beatz didn’t see anything out there like it. Swizz Beatz along with The Dean Collection team are “by the artists, for the artists, with the people.†He then found the perfect partner in Bacardi to help make No Commission Fairs a global movement and not just a domestic initiative.
Swizz Beatz’s No Commission Art Fair has gone to London as well.
Kudos to Alexx Antaeus and The Reggae Mill Bar for taking on this initiative at the Devon House in Kingston, Jamaica.
Many local artists have gotten the opportunities to showcase their talents and now it’s GW Art’s turn!
Remember the exhibition runs until October 1st, so you can view any evening as you please. You can also get a chance to chat with me, the Artist over a drink next Wednesday from 7-11pm at The Reggae Mill Bar.

Gabrielle Burgess a.k.a Suga of Suga Lifestyle handed over a $100,000JMD Donation to President Keisha-Ann Down and other members of the I.C.H.S Alumnae on behalf of herself and fellow alumnae towards the reconstruction of the Food and Nutrition Lab (Date: Sunday, September 9, 2018)
Gabby a.k.a Suga’s alma mater, Immaculate Conception High School, began reconstruction of its Food and Nutrition Lab on Monday, July 2, 2018 and fundraising has been ongoing. However, they are were short by about $750,000JMD at the beginning of the summer.
When I heard about this, as past Deputy Head Girl (2002-2003), founder and owner of the website,
www.suglifestyle.com, I had to help. I thought instead of giving a donation personally, I could make more of an impact by approaching fellow alumnae. It’s a good thing I did, because so many did not know about the reconstruction of the F/N Lab.
Suga Lifestyle is a brand encompassed on the blog, sugalifestyle.com, and is intended to inspire, educate and entertain via various types of posts categorized by; GW Art, Restaurant Reviews and Ratings, Brand Jamaica, Charities, Health and Fitness, Sports and more.
Since I do Restaurant reviews for my website, it would not only be towards supporting our alma mater, but the future of our Culinary Industry.
Many top Caterers and Bakers currently in the Culinary industry are I.C.H.S Alumnae. To name a few of them and their businesses, Observer Table Talk Food Awards Caterer of the Year, Celeste Gordon of Whip It Up, Pastry Passions, Charissa Henry of Pink Apron Ja, Kuk Up Kreations, Suga Buzz, Levy’s Goodies, Cake Couture Ja and I.C.H.S’s Hall of Famer, Thalia Lyn of Island Grill! Whether or not the idea of fulfilling their dream began at Immaculate, High School is where it all began for many and after all, serves as our very strong foundation.
I attended the I.C.H.S Alumnae’s Monthly Planning session last Sunday to handover the cheque from Suga Lifestyle on behalf of myself and fellow ‘Mac Girl Sisters’, and to become more involved as well. I am extremely happy we were able to help to support our bright future and our alma mater.
The F/N Lab looks fantastic for the opening of the new school year with a few finishing touches to be made. For instance the addition of blenders and other items.

The Rotary Club of Ocho Rios East is a Non-Profit Organization that serves in their Communities and offers various Benefits to their members, just as other Rotary Clubs. The Rotary Club of Ocho Rios East is a part of Rotary International, in particular, Rotary District 7020 with clubs from Jamaica and other Caribbean islands.
Members of the Rotary Club of Ocho Rios East happily donate a well needed Water Tank to the St. Ann Infirmary in March 2018.
Earlier this year in March, Rotary Ocho Rios East donated a Water Tank to the St. Ann Infirmary. They also found time in the same month to Plant 18 Trees, representing each of their members in the Blue Mountains area.
While the Blue Mountains area has a lot of vegetation, it is also a World Heritage Site. They chose that area to plant the trees because they saw it as an opportunity to contribute to its maintenance and of course preservation of the environment.

Oktoberfest has been teaching locals and visitors everything they need to know about German spirits and food for over 30 years. This year it starts from Saturday, September 22nd and lasts for 2 weeks, ending on Sunday, October 7th.

This Veal Chop from Sugar Mill Restaurant was well seasoned and cooked to medium rare perfection. Since veal is from calves, the meat was lighter and more tender compared to a Beef Tenderloin.
