Suga Hits North Coast Restaurants for Independence Weekend!

It was so refreshing to leave town last Independence weekend and Restaurant hop!

Of course, with so many culinary gems on the north coast, I didn’t get to go everywhere I wanted to go, but definitely made a few stops worth mentioning.

First stop for Lunch last Friday, Evita’s Italian Restaurant!

Attentive staff with face shields, great, timely service, tasty dishes and a picturesque view.

We enjoyed Grilled Octopus, Smoked Marlin, Curried Shrimp and Chicken Breast and Chicken Breast Tortellini.

Grilled Marinated Octopus served with a fresh tomato and olive salsa (USD$8.50)
Smoked Marlin ‘Carpaccio’ sliced thin, topped with capers and marinated onion rings (USD$7.50)
Ja Curry ‘Supreme’ – Shrimp and Chicken Breast in Curry Mango-Chutney, white wine sauce (USD$16.50)

I concluded lunch with their Tiramisu. I was wondering why they didn’t dust the top of my Tiramisu with cocoa powder though.

TGIF to Mouth-Watering, Delicious Bread Pudding from The Bread Pudding Factory!

Last Saturday, I had the pleasure of indulging in mouth-watering, delicious Bread Pudding from The Bread Pudding Factory!

The Bread Pudding Factory opened in June of this year, a pivoting act around Covid-19 by Nikeisha Reynolds out of her home in Linstead, with the intention of acquiring a location. So the delicious Bread Puddings are currently available by delivery only.

You have the options of Rum & Raisin, Coconut Pineapple Upside Down, Chocolate Chip with Salted Caramel and the Plain Surprise.

Suga tried all flavours except for the Coconut Pineapple Upside Down. Although I love a Caramel crumble on top, they were all good! They had the right ratio of moisture to firmness and the flavours were really distinct. It was hard to determine, but the Chocolate Chip with salted caramel was my favourite.

Nikeisha, foodie turned baker, believes bread is a Jamaican staple that comforts the soul. She thinks it is quite versatile to use in the kitchen and so of course, she has other recipes for more flavours up her sleeve!

Young Saschanee Carty, previously based in Kingston, has now settled in the beautiful parish of Portland. She took a little break with her company, Craving Scoops after the move, but since June, she has started to send her rich, chunky, non-dairy Ice Cream to Kingston! You don’t want to miss this trip!

Her Ice Cream is Non-Dairy and if you’re wondering what she uses, she uses a lot of Cashew and Coconut!

When Essence of Hazel’s Budget Friendly Box of Bailey’s Cheesecake, Chocolate Indulgence Cupcake, Chocolate covered Strawberry and Chocolate drizzled Pretzel popped up in my Instagram feed for $1200JMD, it was a no-brainer.

I know CEO, Kayla Evans to be another Baker who makes rich Chocolate Cakes, so I couldn’t wait to try more from her.

It was refreshing to order from Kayla. She was professional, communicated effectively, was on time and followed up with me for feedback.

It was my Anniversary last Thursday and this box of heavenly goodness was the perfect dessert after lunch and surprise treat for my husband who adores not only me, but Chocolate. We had it with Champagne and it was just as good as expected. The Cakes were rich, moist, and flavourful.

Valentine’s Day Dinner at Cellar 8!

Cellar 8 was the place Suga’s husband, Randy chose for the Valentine’s Day date!

He loved their menu, also endorsed by Suga and wanted to avoid places that felt too crowded.

Cellar 8 seemed to manage an expected heavy flow of diners for the occasion well by having two seatings for the night, 6pm and 9pm. 6pm was a bit too early for a Friday evening, so we appreciate being accommodated for 7pm.

From the looks of it, appetizer servings seemed small, but we came out on top with the Chicken Marsala Kebab served over a mixed green salad and the creamy Seafood Bisque.

Randy’s cut of Steak could have been bigger, but it was cooked to medium rare perfection and I thoroughly enjoyed my Seafood Thermidor.

Their Blackforest Cake and house made Gelato trio were a sweet ending to the evening.

With regards to cost, it was the usual high end price compared to if you chose from their regular menu, racking up a bill of about JA$20,000 for two if you ordered an additional beverage. Perhaps they could offer a Valentine’s Day special next year.

As a part of the earlier set of diners, service was managed relatively well. If there was any delay, we were made aware right away. The food was delectable and the ambience suited the occasion. Loved the brawta photo on the way out! Cellar 8, thanks for a memorable evening.

Suga Taster, Kim’s Breakdown!

With an environmentalist boyfriend, travelling for me means the zoo is a must, and a full day at the zoo always leaves us hungry and wanting to sit and enjoy a satisfying meal. After a splendid day at Zoo Atlanta, I consulted the reliable TripAdvisor and looked for the top ten restaurants nearby. Eight Sushi Lounge had great reviews so it was an easy choice. After we figured out it was valet parking only, we were smooth sailing.

This Japanese restaurant was put together with an interesting marriage of the southern heavy wooden décor and bold ultra modern Japanese accents and accessories. We told our waiter this was our first time and he excitedly and knowledgeably guided us through the menu. We ordered the Tuna Crisp appetizer, the #Hashtag roll, Windmill roll, Explosion roll and Langoustine roll. This was our first time having pressed rolls.

The flavour combinations were so bold that we had to take the time to really savour each roll, despite wanting to gobble it all down. Everything was so tasty and exhilarating!

I don’t know if you’ve spotted a trend with my reviews, but of course we had dessert! We had the Matcha Cheesecake, Homemade Bread Pudding with ice cream and the Chocolate Pudding.

The sweet finale was definitely pleasurable, but the Sushi is what we will be heading back to indulge in once again! This was truly an delightful dining experience.

Suga Taster, Ashleigh’s Breakdown!

A trip to Singapore would not be complete without a visit to the rooftop of the Marina Bay Sands Hotel and more importantly, without a visit to Ce La Vi, a swanky Restaurant and SkyBar perched atop the striking Marina Bay Sands Hotel. The menu featured a relatively wide offering of contemporary Asian cuisine and though just a tad bit on the pricey side, once you take a bite you will understand why…the icing on the cake? no doubt the 360 degree magnificent views of the iconic city!!!

My Aunt, Maxine Spencer visited Barton G for her birthday in August and highly recommended it as a must-stop destination in Miami. From what I saw, I knew I had to visit on my next trip with my husband, Randy.
Epicurean delights were served on eye-popping displays that only added to the enjoyment of the food, great service and ambience. We also had front row seats to see them all come out the kitchen.
We kicked things off with cocktails like no other!

The flavours and textures in the Lobster Pop Tarts were truly a pleasant surprise. There was even a hint of sweet.

The Popcorn Shrimp had the right amount of crisp, complemented well by the sweet and spicy chili sauce.
The tender, juicy delish Sliders almost struck me out! But I wouldn’t allow them to do so. I just had a taste.

The Ahi Tuna was perfection. Look at those cuts!
I have to confess that we also had the best Lobster Mac and Cheese I have ever tasted. It was divine with huge pieces of Lobster.

I thoroughly enjoyed my Risotto Jambalaya. A burst of different flavours with the best of both worlds, Meat and Seafood. Of course I couldn’t finish it, but I must say that the Okra and Spices were sensational additions to the dish.
