Who’s Still in it to Win it at the US OPEN?!

Women’s Singles

Anastasija Sevastova sent Maria Sharapova packing early in 4th round. Beating World no. 2, Simona Halep in the early rounds was probably just too much for Sharapova. Sevastova moves well but I don’t expect her to reach far with her poor service game.

Two-time Wimbledon Champ, Petra Kvitova upset Wimbledon 2017 Champ and US Open favourite, Garbine Muguruza in hard-fought straight sets including a first set tie break last night. Muguruza rolled through her opponents in the opening rounds but Kvitova was just the better player last night. Her powerful shots were too much for Muguruza. Maybe the hard courts just aren’t Muguruza’s specialty either.

Kvitova recently made her comeback after a traumatic injury from a robbery, having to do surgery on her hand with lingering damage to the nerves and more. Kudos to her for making it to the Quarterfinals. She will meet Venus Williams, where she has the advantage of a 4-1 head to head. It is believed the winner of that Quarterfinal in the toughest half of the draw, may ultimately win the US Open.

Venus Williams at 37 years old, beat Carla Suárez Navarro to reach the Quarterfinals. It took 3 sets but she showed the true Champion she was, totally dominating in the 3rd set. She has some work to do on her serve that eventually came together. But her movement was phenomenal, as if she was set back in a time machine.

Sloane Stephens is back from an injury as well. She is not back to her full potential yet, but is still playing well. She is through to the Quarterfinals.

What’s happening on the other side of the draw?

Current World no. 1, Karolina Pliskova will play in the round of 16 today. USA’s Coco Vandeweghe will also be in action along with no. 4, Elina Svitolina who will play the other American still standing, Madison Keys.

Today’s Schedule (Men):

Marin Cilic, past US Open Champ and who reached the Finals of Wimbledon this year, had an early exit.

Juan del Potro (24) is healthy and has been playing well. He will meet World no. 6, Dominic Thiem today.

Roger Federer, who has been suffering from a back injury recently, was struggling in the earlier rounds with 5-set matches. However, he looked like himself again on Saturday, moving much better and destroyed Feliciano Lopez in straight sets.

Screenshot_2017-09-04-00-43-01-1.png

World no. 1, Rafael Nadal had a shaky round on Saturday but is still through to play in the Round of 16 today. He has never met Roger Federer in the US Open in all their years of rivalry, but if both of them stay on course, they are 2 wins away from a Semifinal match up!

Stay tuned!

Dorothy Wang had dinner at Jean-Georges in Beverly Hills two weeks ago and said her Beggar’s Purse was the cutest and fanciest she has ever seen. Suga agrees!

It was filled with Ossetra Caviar and Vodka cream, tied with a chive and topped with a gold leaf.

Mayweather Confirms last Night was his last Fight, 50-0!

Screenshot_2017-08-27-10-51-47-1.png
Mayweather will retire undefeated, 50-0

I am sure everyone can agree that last night’s fight exceeded our expectations in terms of how competitive it was.

Conor McGregor started off strong as expected and took the first 3 rounds. The 4th round was close but went to Mayweather.

We all know that if it went beyond 4 rounds for the UFC fighter, he would become vulnerable and was more likely to lose. That was a reality, as it all went downhill for him from the 5th round. There was loss of movement in the legs and obvious signs of fatigue. But he hung in there quite well until the Ref stopped the fight and Mayweather beat him in the 10th round.

Congrats to Mayweather! The Money Man added about £78.5/US$100 million to his pocket. He also co-promoted the event with the UFC, so he is may earn over £230m from the event!

What you NEED to Know about The MONEY Fight Tomorrow!

Screenshot_2017-08-24-15-47-43-1.png
Photo: MX Large

The MONEY Fight is only ONE Day away!

The undefeated, 40 year old Floyd Mayweather that has come out of retirement

vs.

UFC Flag bearer and two-weight Champion, Conor McGregor

aka

DEFENSE VS. POWER

Place, Time and Channel

The multi-million dollar fight will be held at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Showtime starts at 9pm for local folks on FOX Premium for both DigiPLAY and FLOW. The other channels showing the Fight such as Showtime etc. are likely to be blocked. So if you don’t have it, you need to subscribe or catch it online and stream it to your Tv.

Pre-Fight Drama

The experts do not expect the Fight to be competitive but Irish man, Conor McGregor who has a history of winning by early K.Os, has built up quite the anticipation with a lot of confidence going into the fight. He surely has done his marketing job.

Tempers have been flaring because McGregor expected to do a face-off like the fighters who will be going on before them, but that did not happen. So when McGregor saw Mayweather he asked him if he was afraid. Then there was apparently an exchange of words and a lot of pushing and shoving.

PhotoGrid_1503560926960.png

The Weigh In

Both will do their Weigh In this afternoon at 3pm! Mayweather thinks McGregor will miss the light-middle weight limit of 154. Mayweather chooses his opponents carefully and pays attention to their camp to remain undefeated. So according to him and his sources, McGregor was 10 pounds over the weight limit just 3 or so days ago.  McGregor and his trainers are not worried and think he will hit within the weight limit with regards to their formula and how his weight has been in the past.

Not to worry though. If he misses the weight limit, the fight is still ON! But McGregor will face a hefty fine.

They will be playing with lighter gloves and McGregor thinks it will be to his advantage. He says he will knock Mayweather out in 2 Rounds now instead of 4!

What are the ODDS?!

Vegas Experts have Mayweather to win by Decision since it is likely he will follow his usual strategy of boxing defensively early. Once he takes the fight deep, McGregor normally becomes vulnerable as he tires.

The ODDS ranging in Vegas for McGregor to win are 33-40/1 and 20-25 for Mayweather to win.

Who’s your MONEY on?!

Enjoy and Please Drink Responsibly.

The Odds are 6.50 for them to win. Suga would never encourage anyone to bet on the Reggae Boyz but this may be your chance to win!

Suga’s Tip: If you have any left over Romesco, serve it on your morning whole wheat/grain toast with a boiled egg.

Instructions:

1. Prep the Cauliflower

Heat oven to 425°F.

Cut the Cauliflower into 1-inch florets, discarding any leaves or thick stalks.

Combine the Cauliflower, paprika and 2 tsp. Olive oil. Season with salt and pepper, then toss.

2. Roast the Chicken and Cauliflower

*Ensure you spread the Cauliflower in an even layer beside the Chicken on the sheet pan

Roast until the Chicken is cooked through, then transfer to a plate and rest.

Continue roasting the Cauliflower until browned and tender, perhaps for an additional 6-8 minutes.

Return Cauliflower to bowl where it was tossed to cool slightly.

3. Cut and Cook Scallions

Cut and cook Scallions into 1-inch lengths and cook until charred for 3-4 minutes, then transfer to a plate.

4. Finish Cauliflower

Add Scallion, Parsley and Olives to the roasted Cauliflower and stir to combine.

Add a bit more salt and pepper.

5. Serve

Add the green Romesco and top with the Chicken, then serve Cauliflower and remaining Romesco on the side.

ENJOY!

The Golden State Warriors are the 2017 NBA Champions!!!

Screenshot_2017-06-12-23-53-47-1.png

CONGRATULATIONS to the GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS for winning the 2017 NBA Finals. They beat the Cavaliers 129-120 to seal the NBA Finals series 4-1, which was Suga’s original prediction before a sweep looked possible and the Refs intervened Game 4.

It is the first NBA Finals where 4 players averaged 25+ points, which was achieved by Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and LeBron James.

LeBron James was sensational, putting up 41 points and JR Smith was spectacular with 25 points including 7-8 from the 3-point line. His only miss from the 3-point line was late in the 4th when the Cavs started to crumble seeing the Championship slip away from them. He regrouped and put in another 3-point sinker that was just too late.

Kyrie Irving played well, scoring 26 points. But he was benched on and off as he suffered aches and pains that naturally come at this time of the post-season. He will have the entire summer to rest now.

Tristan Thompson finally stepped up and scored 15 points. He seemed to have switched places with Kevin Love. Love was scoreless for most of the game because he was benched after the first few minutes of the game when he committed 2 early fouls. He eventually ended up with just 6 points.

The Cavs just weren’t good enough.

Apart from an 18-point lead by the Warriors at one point, the game was quite close for the most part and extremely physical to say the least.

The turning point was Andre Iguodala’s (Iggy’s) dunk to change the momentum of the game and to wake up the Warriors who were playing well but not looking like they wanted to seize Game 5 and the Championship.

At that point, Davis West shook things up further after he went for a rebound and Kyrie Irving tried to wrestle the ball away from him. West got fired up and so did Tristan Thompson who also went for the rebound but lost out on it. He came and pushed West and so did JR Smith who ran in on the action from a mile away. West, Tristan Thompson and JR Smith were all given technical fouls.

LeBron James then gave an earful to a laughing Kevin Durant (KD) and Draymond Green and backed up all his talking by sinking a 3. Coach Steve Kerr smartly and immediately called a time out. Then the Warriors prevented an angry comeback from LeBron James.

Screenshot_2017-06-12-22-58-18-1.png
The Warriors fully amped and on their way to victory after Curry scores a 2-point shot and gets fouled

Stephen Curry was explosive in the first half, but not so much in the second half. His 3-point mojo was missing. He assisted some crucial plays to the basket in the 2nd half though. He scored a total of 34 points.

Klay Thompson scored 11 points. It seems like a small amount, but he contributed throughout the game offensively and defensively and hit those 3s when they were needed or mattered the most.

It was KD and Iggy that really carried the team down the stretch. KD scored 39 points, the most he scored in the Finals, scoring over 30 each game. Iggy came up big from the bench with 20 points, highlighted by dunks and a few 3s.

KD did everything you can think of to secure his 1st NBA Championship ring, from assists to rebounds, dunks, layups, drives through the lane, jumpers and those 3s that broke the Cavs’ heart. K-Dagger.

Last night he was the real MVP.

Wanda, kudos to you too.

Congrats to KD for winning Finals MVP.

KD accepts Finals MVP Trophy from Bill Russell

LeBron’s fans will ask, ‘What more could he have done?’ LeBron stated, I left everything on the floor for all 5 games.’ I could almost agree. He played great baskbetball, but not when it counted. Game 4 to save face from a potential sweep and Game 5 at the Warrior’s homecourt is just too late to show up when necessary. Let’s not even talk about the Game 1 and 2 blowouts. But Game 3?! The game back on Cleveland’s homecourt? LeBron just wasn’t clutch. Here is a reminder of how LeBron could have been better and turned this Final around – LeBron missed a driving lay-up in the late 4th and had his 3-point shot attempt blocked by Andre Iguodala with 12s left. He made the offensive rebound then stepped out of bounds resulting in a turnover with 10s left. That’s just an example of a potential 5 points gone out the window. The end result of Game 3 was Warriors 118 – Cavs 113. To be the GOAT, you have to be clutch and that title still belongs to Michael Jordan with 6 rings.

“The premise that the Warriors’ victory was inevitable due to their stacking the deck ignores an indisputable fact: Only one of these teams features four top-five picks in the starting lineup — including a pair of No. 1 overall selections — and it isn’t the Warriors”. – Kevin Arnovitz (ESPN Staff Writer)

At the end of the day, the Warriors were hungrier and played much closer to their full potential compared to the Cavaliers.

Well done and well deserved Championship win for Coaches Steve Kerr, Mike Brown and the Warriors team.

Congrats to the internet too, that keeps winning.

Rafael Nadal wins his 10th French Open and Game 5 of the NBA Finals is tonight!

FRENCH OPEN MEN’S FINAL

PhotoGrid_1497244595827.png

Rafael Nadal defeated Stan Wawrinka yesterday to win the French Open for his record 10th time, 6-2, 6-3, 6-1!

The scoreline was no indication of the quality of the match played. Wawrinka was good but the King of the Clay was spectacular. His coverage of the court was remarkable. Congrats Rafa!

NBA FINALS – GAME 5

The current scoreline of the series after Friday’s game is Warriors – 3, Refs – 1, Cavs – 0.

Lebron James and Kyrie Irving played great basketball on Friday night to end the game with a high scoring NBA Finals record of 137-116, but it was overshadowed by blatant unfair calls from the Refs. The Refs even blundered seriously by ejecting Draymond Green from the game because they had him down for a technical instead of Coach Kerr, who was originally given the technical. So when Draymond actually got his technical later in the game, they attempted to eject him. They had to revisit the call and their records, then realised they made an error.

At that point, Draymond realised it didn’t make sense he even tried to play with how ridiculous the calls were on the court.

Could this be why the Refs allowed the Cavs no chance of getting swept?

FB_IMG_1497242870426.jpg

Game 5 will be played tonight at 8pm.

Maybe the brooms persons got can be used to sweep confetti. That is if and only if Steph Curry decides to show up because he legit choked on Friday night. Only KD showed up for the Warriors.

Will Curry and Klay relive the 3-1 nightmare of last year or will the road finally end for the Cavs tonight?

Stay tuned.
