Suga had an Epiphany! After over 2 years of testing various handpoured soy wax Candles from various artisans to find a special one other than Beryl + Blossom and Laura Alexis Candles, I found The Epiphany: Beyond Body. There were a few more suggestions to try, but Marsha-Lee Hutchinson’s branding, packaging and general presentation on Instagram grabbed me.
I tried her Coffee Candle (6oz) as well as the ‘Mi Rate Yuh!’ Blackberry with Vanilla (9oz) for Valentine’s. The Coffee candle when lit was strong the way I like it. The Blackberry and Vanilla was a bit faint when lit, but definitely soothing as more time went by.
The Epiphany: Beyond Body is now a Suga Artisan and will have her handpoured Soy wax Candles, including the Valentine’s line on special, Chocolate and Coffee Body Scrubs too for great prices! She also offers Skincare products.
Look out for The Epiphany: Beyond Body this Saturday!

Suga has lost track on how much time and money has been spent to find locally made candles that smell like the labelled scent or even have a scent once burned in the house, after ‘smelling and buying’.
Please leave comments at the end of this blog telling me who and where are your favourite scented, handpoured local Candle Makers in Jamaica.
I still cannot come across a handful with high quality, lasting scents and there are so many to choose from. So here are my faves!
Beryl + Blossom’s homemade, handpoured soy candles from Trelawny were a huge hit at Suga Lifestyle’s Christmas Connection last December 15th at The Jamaica Pegasus.
They had 6 new scents, Sorrel, Coffee + Sugar, Peppa Mint, Toto, Pimento and Lemon + ginger! I think it was their Lignum Vitae, Ortanique and Oracabessa that stole the show though and I have been using their Lignum Vitae for quite some time.
Laura AlexisCandles in Kingston is quite reputable for strong, refreshing scents as well. They also make handpoured soy candles. Putus and Hol’ A Fresh are my faves.

Part 1 of ART-TIVITY got off to a great start on Saturday! Suga Lifestyle (GW Art) in collaboration with the Rotaract Club of New Kingston is conducting an Art initiative with students from the Lister Mair/Gilby High School for the Deaf. They will be Painting, Tie-Dying, Jewellery making and learning customer service, marketing and entrepreneurship skills.
The children were quite excited and motivated, absorbing everything that was signed to them as they produced items from how they were guided. This project not only allows us to learn and communicate via sign language, but also aims to create awareness of the deaf community thereby reducing
stigmatization within the society at large. We want to create
new friendships through socialization and art and wish to inspire students to be more comfortable pursuing their dreams and goals without boundaries.
Jonathan shows off his finished Painting (8×10)” Acrylic on Canvas to hang with Gabrielle Burgess, founder/owner of Suga Lifestyle (GW Art).
Their items reflecting the Rotaract Club of New Kingston’s 2019-2020 theme, ‘Impact through Unity’ will be showcased amongst other talented, local artisans at Suga Lifestyle’s Valentine’s Day Pop Up Shop on Saturday, February 8th at The Jamaica Pegasus from 12 noon – 7pm, where all proceeds will go towards the students’ educational resources and the school’s infrastructure.

Suga Lifestyle’s Charity Showcase
Most importantly, Suga Lifestyle will be showcasing items produced from it’s Charity Art-tivity and Entrepreneurship Project in collaboration with the Rotaract Club of New Kingston. The beneficiary will be The Lister Mair/Gilby High School for the Deaf, to improve the students’ educational resources and the school’s infrastructure. This project will also create awareness about the accomplishments and needs of the school and the deaf/hard of hearing community. The children’s jewellery making, painting and tie-dye activities will represent Rotaract’s theme “Impact
Through Unity”.
Suga Artisans
Suga has an eye for local talent and loves to expose you to new Brand Jamaican products and artisans. Suga Lifestyle will be debuting Craving Scoops, a Non-dairy Ice Cream company that uses our local Chocollor Chocolate. Chocollor was at the Christmas show and will be back!
Suga is also shaking up things with a different handmade Jewellery artisan and will be featuring Beauty and the Beads Ja! So happy to have them! They will have handmade necklaces, bracelets and earrings, including arm candy for the special men in our lives!
Will you be my Valentine?
Suga Artisan faves, Mira Botanicals(Body Oils, Soaps, Scrubs and more) and Najwa’s Garden with the most adorable small plants and succulents will be there!
Mira Botanicals at Suga Lifestyle’s Christmas Connection last December 15, 2019 at The Jamaica Pegasus.
Stay tuned to see who else will be there and follow the progress of the Art-tivity project that starts this Saturday!

We had a long drive from Kingston to Negril for a business meeting and took the opportunity to try one of the new restaurants on the strip; Matthew’s had its official opening on September 14th, 2019.
On entering you are welcomed by a wide, tastefully branded Appleton Estate Matthew’s Bar and wallpaper with beautiful photos of a variety of Jamaican landscapes. The dark wooden decor finishes and free wifi were very welcoming and our host greeted and seated us quickly.
My party of 3 ordered Calamari and Wings for appetizers and Coconut Curry Shrimp, honey glazed Salmon and torched Salmon Rolls for the main course. The Calamari was enough to share and EVERYTHING was really tasty. Meal portions were just adequate. My party was satisfied, but I wasn’t leaving without dessert! We shared the Tortuga Rum Cake with Ice cream.
A pleasant dining experience with welcoming, attentive staff and tasty food. Nothing we had was remarkable enough to plan a trip around visiting this restaurant, but I would add it to the list of options if you happen to be in Negril.
Massive kudos to our waitress who honoured my request for honey and lime to accompany my white rum in an attempt to keep my pesky cold at bay!
