Suga’s Comments: 

It’s been a long time coming, but I finally got to revisit Seaside Dutchie over Independence weekend. The Service was even better and faster this time. The Appetizers were just as tasty and the Main was just as delicious. Value for money once again. I keep missing out on their Bread Pudding though!

Johnny Be Good ($700JMD) – Deep fried Johnny Cakes stuffed with Spicy Shrimp and Callaloo with Escovitched Mayonnaise
Saltfish Fritters ($700JMD) – Priory crispy Conch Fritters
Roasted Fish (Price based on the size of the Fish and served with your choice of sides)

Check out Seaside Dutchie’s current opening hours by giving them a call on the number below. They should be a must-stop whenever you are in St. Ann for some authentic Jamaican cuisine with their special twist or just some good seafood without a lengthy wait. Kudos to the Chef. Suga hopes to be back sooner and not later because Seaside Dutchie is still #SugaEndorsed. Cheers!

Suga Hits North Coast Restaurants for Independence Weekend!

It was so refreshing to leave town last Independence weekend and Restaurant hop!

Of course, with so many culinary gems on the north coast, I didn’t get to go everywhere I wanted to go, but definitely made a few stops worth mentioning.

First stop for Lunch last Friday, Evita’s Italian Restaurant!

Attentive staff with face shields, great, timely service, tasty dishes and a picturesque view.

We enjoyed Grilled Octopus, Smoked Marlin, Curried Shrimp and Chicken Breast and Chicken Breast Tortellini.

Grilled Marinated Octopus served with a fresh tomato and olive salsa (USD$8.50)
Smoked Marlin ‘Carpaccio’ sliced thin, topped with capers and marinated onion rings (USD$7.50)
Ja Curry ‘Supreme’ – Shrimp and Chicken Breast in Curry Mango-Chutney, white wine sauce (USD$16.50)

I concluded lunch with their Tiramisu. I was wondering why they didn’t dust the top of my Tiramisu with cocoa powder though.

Fyah Grilled Pizzas on a Tuuuesday from Stush In the Bush During Love in the Time of Corona!

With word of Stush in the Bush coming to town with Fyah Grilled Pizzas on a Tuesday, there was no hesitation to order.

During Love in the Time of Corona, Stush came knocking on my door, from their farm to my table with my neatly packaged order of Fyah Grilled Pizzas ($2000JMD each), Chocolate Chip Cookies ($1000JMD per dz.), Herbed Vegan Cheese ($2000JMD) and Basil Pesto ($1200JMD).

It was without doubt that I had to make it a Family night with all the excitement shown by my fur baby, Annie once all the goodies were taken out the bag and I mentioned Stush in the Bush.

I had to do a Stush set up too! Pun intended. A farm to table vibe with freshly picked flowers from the garden, recycled wine bottles, burlap and lace, mason jars and of course a trendy GW Art wooden sign by yours truly. The wooden sign said, ‘Thankful’, fitting for the occasion and for coping with Covid times.

The Pizzas traveled well and just needed to be reheated in the oven for a few minutes. We had Pizza with Pesto sauce, olives and capers, carrot lox and dill with vegetarian cheddar and vegan parmesan, as well as Pizza with Tomato sauce, ripe plantain, coconut bacon and red onions with vegetarian cheddar and cashew cheese.

A myriad of unforgettable flavours on each Pizza brought us right back to Stush in the Bush’s home in Free Hill, Priory, St. Ann. We cannot wait to return!

The event will feature Cheeses from Outland Hurders Creamery & Farmstead, Chorlavi’s Pepper Jellies and Jams and rich, bean to dark Chocolate from One One Cacao to complement the evening too!

Chorlavi’s by Nella Davis Stewart out of St. Ann, uses less sugar and more local organic fruit, herbs and vegetables to create a tasty variety of Pepper Jellies and Jams. No preservatives and no additives.

Nella used to be a caterer, so can demonstrate how well her Jams and Jellies pair with meats.

Where did she get the name Chorlavi’s?

Nella went to eat at Haciendo Chorlavi, a hotel in the hills of Ecuador about 20 years ago. They have a love story similar to Lover’s Leap in Jamaica and she fell in love with the place.

When Nella went to register her business’s name as Gems, in honour of her mother, the name was aready taken. So she went with Chorlavi’s!

What’s Suga’s fave from Chorlavi’s?

I love the Pineapple, Mango and Carambola Pepper Jellies. They were balanced in terms of tasting the fruit, the spicy and the sweet.

I love the Otaheite Jam too.

What will Chorlavi’s have at GW Art’s Collection?

Chorlavi’s has such a range of Jams and Jellies, I can just give you a preview!
