Over the past 6 weeks, the young ladies from The Women’s Centre and Young Women’s Christian Association that dubbed themselves, Phenomenal Women United, showed significant growth in their approach towards art, their appreciation for their talents and the understanding that their efforts are what will yield results. Of course, there were some who learned faster than others, but in addition to learning artistic techniques, tips on entrepreneurship and customer service skills, they learnt how to have a sound work ethic and an appreciation for time management. They should never forget Suga telling them, “Time is moneyâ€.
Suga is extremely happy to report that the ladies’ artwork sold out at Craft Cart Jamaica’s Pop Up Village last Saturday at Campion Auditorium. The young ladies were grateful and felt a great deal of accomplishment for their weeks of hard work and efforts. The project was definitely a success reaping in a bit over $50,000JMD, of which the young ladies kept all the proceeds.
Thanks to the Rotaract Club of Kingston for choosing me to help spearhead this impactful project via GW Art, which falls under my brand Suga Lifestyle.
Many thanks to all who assisted with training the young ladies, helped in the marketing and promotions of this project and to those who stayed glued to our social media accounts, kept it buzzing with compliments and to all who supported the project with your purchases. You have contributed to the financial empowerment and independence of six young women with a promising future.
What’s next for them? They will continue their studies and a few plan to continue exploring the field of art.
Keep up with the New Kingston Rotaract Club by following them on Instagram @nkrcjamaica and if you are between the ages of 18-30 see how you can join them!

Rotaract is a worldwide organization made up of young professionals between the ages of 18 and 30 years old. There are over 7,000 clubs in more than 163 countries with membership
exceeding 180,000. In Jamaica, there are about 20 Rotaract Clubs, of which the Rotaract Club of New Kingston is a community based service organization, sponsored by the Rotary Club of New Kingston. It is made up of young professionals committed to the commonality of creating opportunities for promising individuals within the Kingston Metropolitan Area. Rotaract provides opportunities for Personal and Professional development of its members as well.
Suga is not only an artist and owner of GW Art, but also a past Rotaractor and still supports the projects of various Rotaract Clubs. Suga Lifestyle and the Rotaract Club of New Kingston have teamed up to conduct an Arts and Entrepreneurship Workshop with young women from the Women’s Centre and Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA).
The Workshop was launched on Saturday, February 23, 2019. The venue and supplies needed for the Workshop have been funded by Suga Lifestyle and New Kingston Rotaract Club. The young ladies have been attending the workshop every Saturday since then under the guidance of Suga and Rotaractors.
The ladies are on course to use their learnt artistic, entrepreneurship and customer service skills to produce, showcase and sell their artwork at Craft Cart’s Pop Up Village on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at Campion College’s Auditorium. They will get to keep all of the proceeds.
Phenomenal Women United will have Paintings, Desktops/Tabletops and Wooden Signs. Here is a Preview!
Entry Cost is $200JMD with part proceeds to the Jamaica Autism Support Association (JASA).
There will be over 50 exhibitors, please come out, look out for us and support this initiative, JASA as well as other talented local artisans.

One elephant was not enough for GW Art’s client who is absolutely fond of elephants. The original and more vibrant, ‘Elephant in the room’ was supersized to balance the earth-toned version that was done for the Christmas 2018 Collection and they make a fantastic pair.
