Cheers to Oak Wine Bar this Friday!

Suga is still enjoying Oak Wine Bar & Cocktail Lounge!

I visited Oak about 2 weeks ago for GNO over the holidays. It’s a small bar but it was a Wednesday night so it wasn’t packed. Service continues to be quick and efficient, enjoyed the selection of music that was played on the low and most of all, I enjoyed my Charcuterie board with a few glasses of Vino.

Charcuterie Board ($2000JMD)

Their Charcuterie board is everything! It’s a spectacular, delicious pairing with wine including cured meats, Danish Blue Cheese that I love, Smoked Gouda, Olives, Pepper jelly and more!

Head over to Oak with family, for a date or GNO and share some bottles of wine or cocktails with delicious bites.

#tbt to when Suga found a Green Juice she liked!

SIP’n’GO Juice Bar was at The Hub Coworking’s Christmas Pop Up Shop last December and I was encouraged to try their Green Natural Juice even though Green Juices and Smoothies are definitely not something I enjoy. I prefer Protein shakes with a little fat-free dairy and more flavour.

However, I was pleasantly surprised when I tried SIP’n’Go’s Natural Green Juice ($300JMD on that day) called the Refresher with Callaloo, Spinach and Cucumber. It had a tangy kick to it that I could appreciate, which came from the addition of Orange juice and a touch of Ginger.

SIP’n’GO Juice Bar has Smoothies, Shakes and more that I know some of my Suga Bears have been enjoying. So go and check them out. They deliver too!

#tbt to Café Blue’s Sweet Christmas Treats!

Instagram Photo: @cafeblueja

Café Blue’s Chocolate Covered Coffee Beans were delightful! They also made great stocking stuffers.

I also cannot forget to mention my annual craving of their Chairman’s Egg Nog. I endulged and enjoyed my spiked one as usual. You have until this Friday, January 6th to enjoy it as well as the White Chocolate Latte!

Chairman’s Egg Nog

Enjoy at Sovereign Mall, Irish Town or NMIA in Kingston or Shoppes at Rose Hall or Fontana in Montego Bay!

Chilitos has Moved to a Bigger Location

Suga visited Chilitos’ expanded Restaurant at 88 Hope Road across from Coldwell Bankers last Saturday on New Year’s Eve at about 5pm. It’s just up the road from where they used to be with a much bigger space and more comfortable seating. They still have that vintage-rustic Mexican décor with a modern twist. I love those new light bulb fixtures that have been going up at the new joints around Kingston.

The menu is pretty much the same and the quality of the food is still good with mediocre service. Pleasant staff but I thought 25 minutes was too long a wait for a Mini Nacho Supreme ($600JMD incl. tx), Gorditas (2 Chicken & 1 Beef for $1050JMD incl. tx) and a Burrito ($1000JMD incl. tx). The Mini Nacho Supreme should have come out quickly or we should have been asked if we would have liked that before the main. The Restaurant was not full either.

My husband and I have been pretty much ordering the same thing from them for years and I remember getting served within 5 to 10 minutes. Our food was made right infront of our eyes. I still prefer that method. I suppose as years went by with expansion and more customers they saw a need for a change, which I don’t mind but more speed in service is required. The waiters assigned to each table also need to be attentive in reassuring us the food will soon be ready and also asking if we would like anything else or if everything is ok.

They have their usual Taco Tuesdays as well as Margarita Mondays and Burrito Fridays with various specials.

So go check out Chilitos at their new home on Hope Road. Lovely setting for going out on a date or for outings with friends and family. If the wait is a little long have some $300 beers while you do.

Happy New Year from Suga!

Happy New Year Suga Bears!

2016 was certainly a year of shockers but great things happened as well and Jamaica continued to make a stamp on the track creating more history.

Thanks for keeping up to date with Suga and for sharing my views on Restaurants/Bars, What’s Hot, Sports, Health & Fitness, Charities and more. Suga may not always be sweet but that is life and when others aren’t honest, Suga will be keeping it real with you. It’s with the hope of gracious acceptance to criticism and ultimately an improvement from various establisments to deliver the best standard and quality the customers deserve.

I loved that some of you had a GW Art Christmas! The Christmas Collection for GW Art sold off and I am truly grateful for all of your encouragement, kind words and support.

Let us look forward to what this year will bring. Work hard but play hard too.

Wishing you all a year of good Health, Happiness, Success and Prosperity!

Little Caesars Pizza in Manor Centre!

Hot-n-Ready 1/2 Pepperoni;1/2 Cheese

Have you stopped by Little Caesars in Manor Centre as yet? It is sharing the same space with the new Popeyes!

It is the most affordable and convenient way to get Pizza right now. Just pay $1000 and a Hot-n-Ready Pepperoni/Cheese/ 1/2 Pepperoni and 1/2 Cheese Pizza will be handed to you!

If they have a lot of people attending to and tell you it will be ready in 10 minutes, they mean it!

Basic toppings such as Onions, Tomatoes, Mushrooms etc. can all be added for $270JMD and Premium toppings such as Bacon etc. can be added for about $390JMD.

Combos with the Hot-n-Ready Pizza including a 2ltr soda are also available for $1600JMD.

Early days but pleasant, efficient staff.

The taste? I would still give Dominoes the edge and have it at about the same level as Pizza Hut. However, it is extremely tempting and easy to grab a Pizza on the go or other items such as Breadsticks ($400JMD) and Wings ($700JMD) that are already hot and ready as well.

Haven’t stocked up on Liquor yet? Check out Jamaica Liquor Warehouse!

Jamaica Liquor Warehouse at Lindsay Crescent is the place to go!

They opened a few weeks ago and have affordable liquor for you in all sizes. Yes Johnny Walker Black is sold by the cue there too!

They have a Bar and a Deli that you can walk over to. Suga went last week Saturday and ordered food, browsed in the liquor store then ate.

The staff were very cordial. Food came out in an adequate time. I was salivating at their Chicken and Waffles from one of their Instagram posts, a Warehouse favourite. Apparently it had shrimp too. The spicy maple syrup was everything.

Golden brown Waffles and Crispy Chicken Tenders and Shrimp ($1850)

My husband had the Warehouse Burger that was cooked to order, medium. Well done Chef.

The Warehouse Burger served on an over easy egg ($1400)

Comfortable seating, decent, modern décor and pleasant staff in both the Warehouse and the Deli who gave good service.

They do Breakfast too but may need to be open earlier for those on their way to work.

Suga will be back for sure.

New Bar Spot in Kingston!

Facebook Photo: The Haven at Hillcrest

If you have been wondering why the road on Hillcrest has been packed with cars at night, it’s because The Haven at Hillcrest is open! It opened a few weeks ago and has been getting a lot of patronage so far judging from the past 2 Fridays I have visited.

They have Foodie Fridays, which is not surprising as the managers, Karen Darby and Byron Purkiss are foodies at heart. Two Fridays ago, I had the pleasure of having Roast Fish (1lb) made by Miss Mae from Hellshire with a serving of Festival and Bammy for $1500. It took a little while to get to me but I was not disappointed and didn’t expect to be. Delish! Freshly caught, well seasoned and topped off with the right amount of pepper.

Last Friday they had Fish Tacos, Chipotle Beef Burgers and more. They have hosted Oyster nights on Saturdays too.

Until they get a Resident Chef, a Pan Chicken man is on property, thus food is always available. Decent Pan Chicken too. I had my share last Friday for $450 within two minutes of ordering.

I am sure The Haven at Hillcrest has a lot more in store and what better timing to head there during the Christmas season with family and friends. Stay tuned to their Facebook page, The Haven at Hillcrest to keep up with the nightly activities. Rustic Chic décor, large space, diverse crowd and affordable food and liquor. The Bartender, Andrew also makes you feel at home.

Authentic Mediterranean Cuisine from Aladin Restaurant

20161105_171449

I revisited Aladin Restaurant for dinner a little over a month ago because it is one of my husband’s favourites. The last time I visited was before the expansion of the dining area. It’s quite a cosy spot now.

Lentil Soup sprinkled with toasted Pita bread and sumac ($500JMD +tx)

Service was quick. We ordered at 5:15pm, our Lentil soup came out at 5:25pm and our entrée right after.

Marinated sliced Chicken and sauteed onions topped with parsley, sumac and pomagranates sauce served over mini pita slices with humus and salad.

I had the Chicken Shawarma ($1450JMD + tx) and my husband had the Beef Shawarma ($1500.00JMD+tx). Both were well seasoned and had that Mediterranean kick to them. They were tasty, filling dishes. Persons without big appetites are sure to take a doggy bag home.

Aladin is a simple, comfortable oasis in Liguanea Plaza where you can order lunch or dinner online for pick up or before you dine for even quicker service.

Suga visits Mainland China & Tandoor in Ochi but has Jamaican Cuisine!

img_20161112_151912
Gabby from Suga Lifestyle and her husband, Randy enjoying a Hummingbird ($699JMD incl. tax) and a Planters Punch ($699JMD incl. tax)

The new Landmark Plaza in Ocho Rios features the Mainland China and Tandoor Restaurant and Bar. It is a fusion of Jamaican, Chinese and Indian Cuisines with respective décors.

Remember Tandoor from Kingston? It’s back, but in Ochi.

I visited with my husband a few Saturdays ago for lunch but unfortunately only the Jamaican part of the Restaurant was open that day.

The décor was ordinary. Both indoor and outdoor seating were available with a Wine Bar inside where there was A/C. There were fans outside but not enough to blow away the persistent swarm of flies once the food arrived.

20161112_152235
Steam Fish (Small) – $1000 incl. tax; Side of Bammy – $200 incl. tax

We had the Seafood Soup ($350JMD incl. tax) as a starter and ordered a Steamed Fish and Oxtail. Service was satisfactory. It was obvious the Steamed Fish wasn’t the ‘Catch of the Day’ and it could use more pepper and seasoning. The Oxtail on the other hand was quite tasty.

Oxtail – $1150JMD incl. tax

Prices were very reasonable. I loved that they had a wide range of Beverages including a variety of Margaritas, Martinis, Shots, Cocktails and Frozen Drinks ranging grom $399-$999JMD incl. tax.

Simple spot to grab some tasty food and drinks that are reasonably priced. Hoping to try the Chinese and Indian Cuisines some time soon but indoors next time.
