Host Steve Harvey Announces the WRONG winner for Miss Universe!

Last night, Steve Harvey announced Miss Colombia as the winner of the Miss Universe Pageant and the card read Miss Philippines as the winner.

Miss Colombia was crowned by the reigning Miss Universe who is also from Colombia. So it was a jubilant celebration.

Then Steve came out and apologized profusely in English. So Miss Colombia must have had an idea what happened but of course seemed a bit lost at first.

Honest mistake but HUGE error on Steve’s part. Miss Colombia even started to celebrate but it was clear with no contestants running up to her, and from the previous rounds of the competition, Miss Philippines was the true winner.

Both contestants displayed great grace after such a terrible mishap. Kudos to both ladies.

It was too late to apologize and he probably will never host another Pageant but we still love you Steve!

Check out how it all went down here:

Skunk Nation brings Car Enthusiasts together for a Cause

First of all, what is Skunk Nation? Skunk Nation represents Jamaica’s ‘Stinkest’ (Eye catching), finest machines a.k.a. cars. Whether it’s the paint job, rims, tints etc., it is all about the time, effort, skill and vision becoming reality while building and supporting local at the same time.

Two Saturdays ago, Skunk Nation had their annual ‘Xmas Charity for the Kids’ that Suga attended at Susie’s Bakery in South Dale Plaza, which brought Skunk rides by different teams across Jamaica together for a good cause.

Persons were asked to bring gifts to drop in their gift drums or to make monetary donations.

Cars were on display of course and Dancehall Artiste, Tanto Blacks made quite a memorable appearance. It was an exciting night of dancers, music and freestyling.

Throughout the night as the liquor flowed and the vibe got ‘rich’, persons felt more inclined to drop money in the boxes carried around by Skunk Nation’s team of girls.

Donations such as strollers and more were handed over to Mary’s Child Girls Home last week with the aid of sponsors, Truck Stop, Sparkles Productions, Chun Scents, Ship n’ Go and KMS Distributors to name a few.

How to NOT let Social events Sabotage Hard Work

Screenshot_2015-12-17-02-46-07-1
Photo: www.sheknows.com

● Eat something light (fruits/vegetables/cereal/sandwich) shortly before arriving so you don’t have a big appetite, especially for those calorific finger foods and snacks that add up quickly.

● Calorie log awareness

– Stay in control using  a Food diary, Fitness pal app or other apps

● Limit alcohol intake

– Try club soda with lime and olives

● Do NOT stand near to the food table

– You might want to keep picking at it

● Take small amounts so you don’t feel bad leaving a lot behind on your plate

– Veggie and fruit trays are low calories

-Portions are always important! Keep it small

ENJOY but in MODERATION!

Authentic African Cuisine from Cafe Africa!

PhotoGrid_1450279108261

My other half visited Cafe Africa about a month ago and enjoyed his Cameroon Beef lunch in a simple, comfortable setting.

Cafe Afica is located between Trafalgar and Lady Musgrave Road, where Toss and Roll used to be.

Nothing is extravagant or over the top. The service is mediocre, but the relaxed, laid back, feel-good vibe of the outdoor ‘side-walk’ cafe reaches every diner.

The menu changes from time to time and is written on an African-shaped blackboard. Dishes from over 25 countries have been put on that menu, for instance, Congo’s original Saltfish and Okra Stew, Mozambique style Pan Grilled Chicken and more.

They also deliver!

The Cafe could serve as a cool watering hole or coffee fix and tea stop, as they serve South African wines, Organic coffee and African teas.

The Warriors’ winning streak is over!

Screenshot_2015-12-14-08-48-57-1

The 24-0 winning streak and record season start for the Warriors finally came to an end last Saturday night with a 95-108 road loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. Curry scored 28 points. Who put their money on that game?

Suga saw this loss coming as the other Splash brother for the Warriors’, Klay Thompson has been out with an ankle injury for the last 2 games. The Warriors battled to win the previous game on Friday night versus the Celtics in 2 overtimes, 124-119.

So now with a 24-1 record, the Warriors should still feel upbeat about the rest of the season. But watch out for other teams in the West such as the Spurs who remain under the radar with a revamped team and a 20-5 record.

The East? Well although the Cavs are playing cautious and conservative, Kyrie Irving is said to return soon, possibly on the 20th or even the latest January.

Let us see how it all plays out! I love this Game!

Nìrvanna Indian Fusion Cuisine is the new Birthday Hot Spot

20151203_205106-1

Nirvanna had a packed night last week Thursday. Other than my fiancé, at least 2 or 3 other persons seemed to be celebrating birthdays.

We arrived on time for our reservation at 8:30pm. We were offered a seat by the bar until our table was available close to 9pm. It did not feel like a long wait, as the hostess had a lovely personality, chatted us up a little and we got more than enough time to browse the menu. I usually need more time choosing from an Indian menu. The atmosphere was nice with light Indian music and the decor was modern with a slight, sidewalk-terrace vibe with the arched columns.

We ordered at 9pm and our Tomato Basil soup ($495JMD) arrived quickly within minutes as it should. It was spicy but not hot and flavourful as the basil was fresh.20151203_210919-1.jpg

Our main dishes arrived shortly after our soup cleared. I was impressed that on a completely packed night, food arrived within reasonable time and the service was good. Our waiter could have been more attentive but he was pleasant.

We had the Paneer Tikka Masala ($1395JMD), Chicken with Spinach ($1595JMD) and Chicken with Fenugreek ($1595JMD). I think the dishes could have at least been served with the steamed basmati rice, but if desired, it would be at an additional cost. So we ordered the rice, Tandoori Roti and Tandoori Garlic Naan as our sides. Wine was reasonably priced by the glass and we had Chardonnay and Merlot.

When there is a debate about the winning dish, that is a good thing. I loved the Chicken with Spinach that was thick silky creamy sauce mildly spiced with garlic and masala tossed with boneless chicken tikka chunks versus the Chicken with Fenugreek that won by majority, which was thick silky creamy methi gravy mildly spiced with garlic and masala tossed with boneless chicken tikka chunks.

Something was a little different about the Tikka Masala so it lost out. Although Indian Cuisine is not native to our tongue, we have enjoyed others a bit more. My other half thought that it’s usually in a thicker sauce as well.

A mini Chocolate Mousse Cake ($850JMD) from the Montego Bay Chocolate Company that has other desserts in there, was a lovely end to the meal. It was very small but moist and delicious.

A pretty pricey menu but worth it. They normally say different strokes for different folks but I think it is safe to say Nirvanna pleases on every level.
