Suga Taster, Kimmy’s Breakdown!
During Love in the Time of Corona, many of us bought snacks we know we should stay away from, then binge ate them. Me? GUILTY!
After one week of this I was craving something healthy, but different. THE PLANTRY had been popping up on my Instagram and I took this opportunity to give them a try.
Their plant-based food options change weekly. Soups, salads, main dishes and sweet treats. You order and pay online, which helps significantly with reducing human interaction, and the food can be delivered or you can pick it up.
I ordered on Instagram, received an email with the invoice and made payment via squareup.com.
The menu was titled, ‘An Ode to Mexico’ the day that I ordered.
For JMD $1400, I got a small Split Pea Soup and Prickly Salad, a Nopales (type of cactus) Burrito, Elote (Mexican Grilled Corn) and Non-Dairy Mango Ice cream. A starter, main course and dessert for $1,400! Value for money already.
I decided to pick up the order myself because I needed a little drive out after watching too much Corona news. I was promised it would be ready at noon. I got there at 1pm and it still wasn’t ready. For damage control she made me a small Jerked Jackfruit plus Bean Wrap with fresh Mango Chutney. It was so tasty that I actually stopped half way so I could give the other half to my boyfriend. All of a sudden, instead of anxiously waiting I was patiently and excitedly anticipating receiving my order.
At 2pm I was delving into my meal, so apologies, but no pics. The Soup, Salad, Elote and Burrito were DIVINE! Tasty, flavourful and filling!
So good I would definitely order again, but do delivery instead and plan for the delay.
What happened to the Ice-cream? The Ice-cream was not ready until two days later. Smooth and refreshing; as sweet as the perfect mango.
If you’re in office and still tied to a restricted Lunch time, this may not be for you. If you’re working from home, THE PLANTRY is definitely worth your time. Just mentally prepare for a possibly long wait.

#tbt to Buju’s 1st return to stage at the National Stadium in Jamaica last March 16, 2019 and the best photo I’ve seen that captured the moment!
This photo was printed on canvas and signed by Buju Banton himself, who also ordered a copy!
Who’s the man behind the lens with his height to his advantage?
I have had the pleasure of living vicariously through the vivid images captured by Tennyson, who has taken his hobby, Photography and turned it into one of his careers.
Those of us who know him also know his highlighted focus, his wife, who is a natural beauty.

The Mona Lions visited the residents of George Abraham’s Home in Bryce Hill, August Town on Saturday, April 4, 2020. They provided them with warm meals, bun & cheese and care packages including essential cleaning agents and grocery items.
Kudos to the Lions Clubs for their good deeds, especially in this time of crisis.

Last Friday, The Rotaract Clubs of St. Andrew and Liguanea Plains stopped at nothing in order to hand over their donation of sanitary napkins and new undies to Tarrant High School. The Holborn Spartans also made a generous contribution to assist with their donation. The students will receive these items upon their return to school.

If you don’t remember Suga’s post on our local Chocolatiers last year or haven’t tasted Likkle More Chocolate yet, here is your update!
To refresh your minds, Founder, Fine Pastry Chef and Artisan Chocolatier, Nadine Burie has been awarded, Table Talk Jamaica Observer Food Awards Dessert Chef of the Year for the past 4 years.
The Production of Likkle More Chocolate Bars are still in the creative process. ‘We’ve been working on this project for more than 3 years now and we really want to give an excellent product that would be accessible to everyone in Jamaica with this line. We ferment, dry, roast, process the bean from the beginning until the end products and we work with different farmers from different regions. We press our own cocoa butter that we use in our chocolate. We control everything’ says Burie.
Likkle More Chocolate Produces Decorated Chocolate Bars with a unique variety of flavours!
Nadine Burie also produces a line of Chocolate for Cafe Blue, which I had the pleasure of tasting! Well, eating, because it is true that once you take a bite, you say to yourself, just get a ‘likkle more’.
All the cocoa used to make Cafe Blue Chocolate is from the central and eastern parishes of Jamaica, from over 3000 small farmers!
There is also less sugar, more Cocoa. Natural Cane juice is used to sweeten and there are no preservatives and no artificial flavours.
My favourite was the 57% Bean to Bar Blue Mountain Coffee Dark Chocolate. Imagine it only had 3.2g of Saturated fat, no Cholesterol and only 2.6g of sugar! I ate that bar guilt-free.
Put Likkle More Chocolate on your #PostCovid19BucketList, BUT you can have the Chocolate line for Cafe Blue right now! You can either go to Cafe Blue, Sovereign Centre or purchase them for $600JMD+tx in Loshusan Supermarket, Barbican. By purchasing these chocolates, you help to impact the lives of over 3000 small farmers and their families. #SugaEndorsed
Stay tuned for when I get to try the Likkle More Chocolate line!
