Suga Taster, Stephen’s Visit to Blue Brews Bistro on the Culinary Trail!

A month ago, Suga Taster, Stephen Greig ventured up to the cool Blue Mountains on a Sunday, with visiting San Francisco based brother and fam to check out the fairly new, Blue Brews Bistro (Ig: @bluebrewsbistro) in Holywell National Park.

Here’s what he had to say!

The drive was relaxing with majestic views of the Blue Mountains and fresh air to open the appetite along the way.

Upon arrival at Holywell Park, we were directed to Blue Brews Bistro, which had quite a few patrons by 11am. I would recommend that you make a reservation in advance via their email if you have a large party. Kudos to Owner/Manager Jovan Yapp for his hospitality, accommodating our party of 6. The staff were also friendly and attentive.

The menu expectedly had variations of your favourite Blue Mountain Coffee, Burgers, Hot Dogs and Pastries. It was interesting to see that they had non-bistro fare including smoked Pork Chops, Steak & Fried Chicken.

Our party had Pumpkin Soup, Burgers with seasoned fries and more traditional Breakfast fare such as Eggs and Bacon.

We tried their “Brookie” for Dessert, a merger of a Cookie and Brownie along with fresh Lemongrass Lemonade too.

The food was satisfactory, but you really go for the drive and experience. Also, the view and the cool, salubrious surroundings, where you can even go for a walk around the park while waiting.
The park museum is directly above the  restaurant, so do check it out.

There wasn’t any traditional Jamaican cuisine offered, so if there was a recommendation, it would be to really have a more Jamaican experience. Definitely worth a visit though. Big up Blue Brews Bistro.

Casual, Cosy, Tasty… Arepa!

Gabrielle Burgess a.k.a Suga with friend and Suga Taster, Taraja Jackson.

Arepa House is one of the new restaurants in town.

Suga stopped by with friend and Suga Taster, Taraja Jackson two Saturdays ago.

We didn’t have the classic Arepas, but we enjoyed our Chicken and Beef Bowls with their variety of Ad-ons + fresh Lemonade.
Tasty and filling. Venezuelan with a Jamaican twist👍🏽

Chicken Bowl (J$2200)
Arepa House-made Lemonade

The food is not comparable, but with Pita Grill gone, I think Arepa House fills the fast food – pick up spot void for Breakfast and Lunch in the Liguanea area.

Of course I’ll have Arepas next time 😃💃 Their Menu is posted online. #SugaSnaps

A Fantastic Stay at The Cliff Hotel by West End, Negril

The Cliff Hotel, Negril, Jamaica

TGIF! Where are you staying this weekend Suga Bears?!

We had a fantastic stay at The Cliff Hotel by West End, Negril last weekend.

Watch “A Fantastic stay at The Cliff Jamaica by West End, Negril” on YouTube here:

Even though it’s not an all inclusive, their current rate is definitely value for money. Seize the opportunity before it goes back up!

The food and presentation from their Zest Restaurant was consistently excellent.

Manager, Vernon was on site everyday, quite hospitable and accommodating along with his staff.

The property was clean. Views were breathtaking. Parking was adequate, which is hard to find in Negril. Wifi was decent. The room was huge and the Smart Tv was great. Just 1 complaint…only water came in the fridge. We would appreciate 2 Red Stripes next time 😎🍻

The Cliff Hotel and its Zest Restaurant are #SugaEndorsed.

When Skylarking in Negril, Yuh Driva Haffi Mek 1-Stop

Miss Lily’s at Skylark Negril Beach Resort on Negril’s Seven Mile Beach!

The music, food and vibes are right everytime. The only good system is a sound system.

I enjoyed their succulent, flavourful Jerk BBQ Pork Spare Ribs with roasted plantains. Finger-licking good.

Hubby, Randy enjoyed the Miss Lily’s mouth-watering Cheeseburger that was sandwiched in cocoa bread.

Vegetarian menu and fresh Juices available too. I  had the refreshing Skylark Greens.

Great, speedy and pleasant service. #SugaEndorsed

Suga’s Next Stop on the West End, Rockhouse at Rockhouse Hotel!

The award-winning Caribbean’s Leading Boutique Hotel for many years, as well as Jamaica’s Leading Spa Resort for ’14, ’15 is usually booked out for Weddings whenever we are in Negril.

So with much anticipation and quite a reputation, we finally dined at one of the most scenic Restaurants cliffside.

The staff there, led by Gossett definitely got that old school welcoming, Jamaican hospitality that we love. Kudos to them. Their energy working amongst each other was cordial as well.

Seating was close, but I was still able to make myself comfortable.

My Coconut Shrimp starter was delish. We enjoyed the other dishes, Crab Quesadilla, Seafood Linguini with Shrimp and Snapper and the Surf & Surf with seared Snapper and Garlic Shrimp.

Coconut Shrimp (US$12)
Crab Quesadilla (US11)
Seafood Linguini with Shrimp & Snapper (US$19)
Surf & Surf with seared Snapper and Garlic Shrimp (US$24)
Chocolate Cake

They were tasty dishes, but left a little more to be desired. I also only had two bites of the Chocolate Cake. Perhaps expectations were too high or maybe they fell off their game a bit, because other spots are quite impressive! Stay tuned for more this week.

Suga Revisits Westmoreland! First Stop, Pelican Lookout!

Sometimes it takes a few months before you get the urge to take the 4-hour drive to Negril, but when you do, it’s so worth it!

First stop, Pelican Lookout restaurant and bar by West End, Negril.

It was overcast upon arrival, but then the sun came out and you know Negril heat hits differently, so go in the evening or night when the vibes and temperature are right.

Very attentive staff, big up Rohan and most of all, the Chef! Food ‘propa’.

A variety of Octopus dishes were on the menu, but looks like we just missed the season. We have to return to try those!

There were still great options for Seafood, Pastas, Burgers and Beverages. We opted for traditional Jamaican Conch Fritters, Oxtail and Curried Goat. They all hit the spot. Di Oxtail tender tender and slide off the bone. Well seasoned and wicked flavours.

Conch Fritters (US$8)
Oxtail and Beans
Oxtail and Beans (USD $17)
Curried Goat (USD$15)

Eye-catching rustic, artistic décor & view, rhythmic music, timely food and I can see the place lights up at night.

Pelican Lookout is #SugaEndorsed. Visit them when next on the West End.

District 5 Sky Lounge at the R Hotel was a Vibe Last Saturday!

Gabby Burgess a.k.a Suga of Suga Lifestyle with Suga Taster and friend, Taraja Jackson at District 5, R Hotel last Saturday.

Thank you District 5 Sky Lounge for some much needed fresh air, wine, rum, tasty, sizeable portions of food and of course an atmosphere full of vibes.

Grilled Snapper Fillet (USD$25)
Thyme, black pepper, garlic and home-made green marinade grilled to perfection and glazed with paprika butter

While most Restaurants, Bars & Lounges were quiet last Saturday, before three days of No Movement in Ja, the Best Sunday Spot became the Best Saturday Spot.

My crew of ladies gathered around a table at about 1:30pm and as the day progressed, the music got a little louder, had more buzz and all the diners at their designated and adequately distanced tables caught a vibe.

District 5 Sky Lounge is currently a hot spot for celebrations and we saw Birthdays and lastly, we thoroughly enjoyed witnessing a celebration of love, a Proposal!

With screams from the Feyoncé to be’s girlfriends, all eyes turned to the prepared stage for the special occasion and to see her say YES. Congrats to the lucky couple and Suga is looking forward to when cases are lowered and the Best Sunday Spot can resume Brunch! Cheers🥂

One of the Best Spots for Breakfast in Kingston!

Café el Centro on Hillcrest Avenue, Kingston

Throwing it back to having Breakfast at one of the best spots in Kingston last Saturday, Café el Centro!

Café el Centro on Hillcrest Avenue, Kingston is famous for their mouthwatering Steaks and last Saturday they offered their Steak and Eggs special that hubby couldn’t miss.

My healthy week started from Saturday! I opted for Eggs Benedict with spinach and a Smoked Marlin Salad.

The Steak was cooked to medium rare perfection, the Eggs Benedict was delish and the Smoked Marlin Salad was stacked to my satisfaction.

Service was great and usually is, whether or not there are many diners there. Check out Café el Centro for Breakfast or Lunch this week!
