Suga has been celebrating her Birthday ALL Month long. JUNE, the month when we can go back outside, is definitely worth celebrating!

I had their house faves, the Loaded Fries w/ Tomatoes, Onions & Cheese ($1000JMD+tx), Waffles w/ Crispy Chicken & spicy Maple Syrup ($1500JMD+tx) – one of the Best around town and their Frozen Mint Lemonade ($500JMD+tx).

HAPPY MONDAY! Suga closed out Birthday Week with Brunch at The Jamaica Pegasus !

20200614_194557
Gabrielle Burgess a.k.a Suga

Sunday Brunch is back at The Jamaica Pegasus !!! Dining at The Blue Window yesterday was the perfect closing to Suga’s Birthday week, as they always make me feel right at home. Ask for Marcia when you go!

General Manager, Peter Hilary as well as Assistant Food and Beverage Manager, Mikhailla Robinson were present throughout to ensure Brunch service ran smoothly and interacted with Diners.

All Sanitary Protocols were observed. Diners sanitized before entry, all staff members were masked, the tables were adequately spaced and were set after diners were seated and we had to be served by staff at the Buffet. Chafing dishes were kept closed if no diners were ready to be served and opened towards the server. Wearing of masks by diners around the Buffet station was mandatory. #SugaSnaps

We were offered rich Jamaican Hot Chocolate and Soup first, then could go to the Buffet that offered delicious Jamaican fare in addition to the Carving station, Salad bar, Crepe/Waffle station and Dessert station. A glass of Fruit Juice was also included.

Everything was on point, but highlights for Suga were the juicy, tender Oxtail, Crackling Roasted Pork that Executive Chef, Mark Cole says is in high demand and understandably so and those delightful jelly-filled doughnuts!

TGIF to My Birthday Cake from SEAR274!

ABSOLUTE PERFECTION from the details to the core! I made a special request to hubby that I wanted a pretty Birthday Cake that tasted good too and he did well!

It was ‘REAL RICH 👏’ My Cake was filled with the new Pure Chocolate Company’s 70% Dark Chocolate – Coffee flavour and Almonds. The few friends that I had celebrate with me raved about it and by the end of the night we were only left with 1 slice! #SugaSnaps #SugaEndorsed

Suga’s Breakdown!

During Love In The Time of Corona, Suga and hubby, Randy Burgess brunched outside! As restaurants slowly start to reopen, we jumped at the opportunity to try The Rib Kage Grill located in Sovereign North and kick-start Suga’s Birthday week as well.

Still taking precautions, we made reservations for their opening time at 11:30am and we were their first and only diners at that time, where everything was clean and spotless. We only saw a family pick up a take-out order.

Mandella was our waiter and the service was superb from we entered until we left. We appreciated Mandella. Another positive coming out of Corona is the extra effort to offer great customer service and for customers to be pleasant and thankful on the receiving end as well. I hope it lasts!

I don’t eat Pork often, but I have been craving their Crispy Pork Belly Waffles since they posted it. So I definitely ordered that, Randy ordered the Korean Chicken and Waffles and we shared the Smoky Ackee and Tostones, which was a tasty starter.

20200607_115920
Smoky Ackee and Tostones ($1200JMD) – Crunchy twice fried Green Plantain topped with Ackee and Smoked Herring.

Crispy Pork Belly does not have much meat if any, but I would have liked if the few bits I had were more tender with melt-in-your-mouth fat after I got past the tasty, crispy char. My waffles were crisp, but I wanted them to be a bit more fluffy in the middle. So I was slightly disappointed, but it was filling and I was still able to enjoy it.

20200609_132654
Crispy Pork Belly Waffles ($1650JMD+tx) – Vietnamese Crispy Pork Belly with Waffles *There was no Green Papaya Salad as the menu stated.

Randy’s Waffles were perfect. Stick to what you know! Golden brown with a huge serving of delish Korean style Fried Chicken. Mandella also enthusiastically offered us some freshly whipped cream on the side.

20200609_110435
Korean Chicken and Waffles ($1650JMD +tx) – Crispy Belgian Waffles with Korean Style Fried Chicken and Cucumber Kimchee.

Of course we had to drink while we brunched! We had the refreshing Dirty Mojito and Lychee Lemongrass Freeze Cocktails. Cheers!

Fyah Grilled Pizzas on a Tuuuesday from Stush In the Bush During Love in the Time of Corona!

20200526_205928
Randy and Gabrielle Burgess a.k.a Suga with their fur baby, Annie.

With word of Stush in the Bush coming to town with Fyah Grilled Pizzas on a Tuesday, there was no hesitation to order.

During Love in the Time of Corona, Stush came knocking on my door, from their farm to my table with my neatly packaged order of Fyah Grilled Pizzas ($2000JMD each), Chocolate Chip Cookies ($1000JMD per dz.), Herbed Vegan Cheese ($2000JMD) and Basil Pesto ($1200JMD).

20200526_234329

It was without doubt that I had to make it a Family night with all the excitement shown by my fur baby, Annie once all the goodies were taken out the bag and I mentioned Stush in the Bush.

I had to do a Stush set up too! Pun intended. A farm to table vibe with freshly picked flowers from the garden, recycled wine bottles, burlap and lace, mason jars and of course a trendy GW Art wooden sign by yours truly. The wooden sign said, ‘Thankful’, fitting for the occasion and for coping with Covid times.

The Pizzas traveled well and just needed to be reheated in the oven for a few minutes. We had Pizza with Pesto sauce, olives and capers, carrot lox and dill with vegetarian cheddar and vegan parmesan, as well as Pizza with Tomato sauce, ripe plantain, coconut bacon and red onions with vegetarian cheddar and cashew cheese.

20200526_235317

A myriad of unforgettable flavours on each Pizza brought us right back to Stush in the Bush’s home in Free Hill, Priory, St. Ann. We cannot wait to return!

Date Night at Home with Mystic Thai During Love in the Time of Corona!

20200519_234909
Randy and Gabrielle Burgess a.k.a Suga enjoying date night at home with Dinner delivered by Mystic Thai last Wednesday, May 13, 2020.

Throwing it back to Mystic Thai delivering to our door last week Wednesday!

That was not a dinner to eat on the couch in front of the television. It was a great opportunity for Date Night. I had to shower, wash my hair and get ready. I mean, we had to respect the rich, culinary ethnicity of what we were about to experience. We were dressed too casual, but it’s hot at home!

20200520_004736

The package traveled well. It seemed like the boxes were delivered just as how they packed them. There was no leaking or gravy stains and this was coming all the way from Montego Bay to Kingston. Why can’t bearers in Kingston get it right?

Anyhow, Date night kicked off with delish Mushroom Bamboo Shoots (USD$8) and Shrimp and Scallion (USD$10.50) Dumplings complemented well by the sauces provided with them. We had spicy, sweet, herby and soy sauce options.

20200519_234737
Mushroom Bamboo Shoots (USD$8) and Shrimp and Scallion (USD$10.50) Dumplings

We then enjoyed Rang Dang Gai (Grilled Chicken with Thai Herbs – USD$9.50) Kebab style.

20200520_011723
Rang Dang Gai (Grilled Chicken with Thai Herbs – USD$9.50)

The finale featured Kaeng Som (Yellow Curry) Shrimp (USD$14.50) with Garlic Naan. Their Green Thai and Red Thai Curries are best sellers, but I was going for the immune booster provided by the Turmeric in the Yellow Curry.

20200520_011704
Kaeng Som (Yellow Curry) Shrimp (USD$14.50)

My only complaint was that the quantity could have been more, which I am sure they will look into when they hopefully do this again! I would also order more. We were still satisfied, but we had ZERO leftovers. The next day we were just left with the memory that no other Restaurant’s Dinner Delivery is currently on that level. You get what you pay for. Thank you so much Mystic Thai for thinking of Kingston, my taste buds thank you as well. #SugaSnaps #SugaEndorsed

Suga’s Breakdown!

Suga’s 4th Anniversary was 2 weeks ago (so now marked safe!) and she was itching to dine out.  But first, how did Suga take the chance?!

I know that Government officials, diplomats and a large clientele of local and international corporations use the meeting and restaurant facilities of The Pegasus regularly. So they must have strict measures in place to keep everyone safe.

Believe it or not, I have a touch of OCD, so I also take my own precautionary measures that everyone should take. When you do take out or curbside pick up, you are already trusting persons in the kitchen to handle your food. We are already wearing masks, practicing social distancing when walking into or out of most places or even waiting somewhere. When we go home, I would hope that we leave our shoes at the door, discard our clothing in the laundry hamper and have a shower.

So what makes Dining out different if tables are set at or more than 6ft apart? The utensils, the table setting including a cloth napkin and the chair you are sitting in.

How does The Jamaica Pegasus Keep it Safe to Dine?

· All guests are asked to sanitize hands before entering the restaurant. [Personally, I go to the bathroom, wash my hands and then use a napkin to open the door to go out and dispose of it in the bin nearby at the atm machine.]

· Physical distancing is adhered to when seating (tables are spaced and limited number of diners accommodated)

· All menus are sanitized after each use. [#SugaSnaps]

· Cutlery are triple sanitized. Pre-soaked in bleach, washed in a machine that uses heat and chemical for sanitizing. Tables will be set when guests are seated.

· Tables and chairs are sanitized after each use.

· Frequent touch areas are sanitized multiple times throughout the service time.

Not so bad right? Also note, they are changing to disposable napkins this week!

The table was set before we were seated, but I expected that no one would have tampered with it or it may not have been set for too long before.

The service staff all wore masks the correct way and there were only 2 other persons dining at the time. They were wearing masks too. I actually felt comfortable. I didn’t touch the menu because I know their regular menu well enough and went for the special that day, which was posted at the entrance for you to see.

So let’s get to the fun part! What was for Lunch?

20200515_073214

I’m not a fan of Coconut milk, but I love risotto. The puff pastry that was supposed to have a crunchy crust, and a light and airy texture got a bit overwhelmed with the coconut milk. The Pegasus has a Jamaican flair with food, so I would suggest a different sauce for the shrimp, perhaps even a curry and scrap the pastry. Less carbs too. Notice I started with the Entrée? That’s because the Appetizer is still on my mind 2 weeks later! Divine! So creative for a Spring roll with the different flavours complementing each other so well.

20200430_142533

Guess what? We returned last week Friday too! They had a Salmon special! We knew what to expect so we were even more comfortable.

20200515_073549

20200508_140853

Both the Appetizer and the Main were delish. I appreciated that it was a healthy meal too! #SugaSnaps

20200515_080019

Of course there is no picture of my husband and I, an ‘ussie’ wouldn’t do the trick and during love in the time of Corona, it is not advised to ask other persons, especially the waiter to handle your phone!

Let the food pics speak for themselves. (Of course my phone is sanitized – all the time)

We enjoyed 2 courses at Kingston’s best Hotel for just $2000JMD (taxes additional) with a complimentary glass of juice. It was a steal of a deal pulling us in. You will now see the listed price of the Lunch Special as $2500JMD, but it includes G.C.T and Service Charge, so definitely value for money, especially if they have added Steak to the menu for some days. Look out for what to expect on their Instagram page!

Taking the chance is up to you, but dining at The Blue Window during Love in the time of Corona is #SugaEndorsed.

XoXo,
Suga 💖

Suga Taster, Kim’s Breakdown!

20190807_065902
Suga Taster, Kimberly Nesbeth
During Love in the Time of Corona, some of us are getting tired of cooking. All foodies know Alexa Von Strolley is that culinary artist who’s never afraid to wow our minds and surprise our taste buds, leaving her patrons wondering how she thought of this while leaving us begging for more. When I heard about Tooksie’s Canteen, I browsed the Instagram page and started to order.

Tooksie’s Canteen operates Wednesdays to Fridays. The menu options change weekly. For each day there is usually one light option, such as a Salad or Flat Bread, two heavier options and a sweet treat. You order and pay online, which helps significantly with reducing human interaction, and you pick up at noon. I ordered on Instagram, received an email with the invoice and made payment via Sagicor e-banking.

I ordered the In-n-Out Burger and Crack pie for Wednesday, Oxtail and Fish tacos on Thursday and Tuna Tataki Pizza and Tea-ramisu for Friday.

Wednesday
20200513_074921
In-n-Out Burger – Double stacked Beef Burger with American Cheese ($1400JMD)
The In-n-Out Burger was a tasty juicy American burger with lots of American cheddar cheese and fries. The fries and bread were clearly done on my arrival. Despite the juicy, cheesy burger, no soggy bread ‘roun here! Also the crispiest fries I’ve had in years. I expected the burger to be something out of the ordinary, but it was ordinary.
Sidenote: The Burger I had from Alexa the week before though, was heaven!
20200512_234801
Double stacked Beef Burger, Crispy Pork Belly, Caramelized Onions, Cilantro Garlic sauce, Monterrey Jack Cheese with Fries – $3000JMD
20200512_151033
Crack Pie with Cinnamon Whipped Cream
The Crack Pie was amazing! It tasted like danish butter cookies made into moist sweet indulgence. So addictive. I immediately understood how this American dessert got its name.

Thursday
20200512_235616
Oxtail Tacos – Port Wine reduction, Butter bean Crema, Crispy Onions
The Oxtail taco was perfect! Tender meat and a loud flavour with a kick of something I couldn’t put my finger on. It was delicious.
The Fish taco had too much batter for me, but once I squeezed the lime provided on the Fish, the bold flavour combinations completely outshone the batter.

Friday
20200501_202658
Tuna Takati Pizza
The Tuna Tataki Pizza was fresh and exciting, spicy but not peppery. I wish I ordered more! This dish was a reminder of Alexa’s versatility as a chef.
20200512_152743
Tea-ramisu Chai soaked Lady Fingers with Dulce de Leche Mascarpone and Matcha Powder.
The Tea-ramisu was like a green tea tiramisu. Very interesting, unexpected and refreshing.

Chef Alexa Von Strolley is as cute as her logo, but her food is LOUD, BOLD and BRAVE. Each meal tasted fresh and specially prepared. Her prices are comparable to mid-priced restaurants and the wait time is five minutes or less.
