CONGRATULATIONS to 24-year old Jamaican and former Rising star, Dalton Harris who was announced as the winner of the UK X Factor 2018 show yesterday!

The X Factor is a British reality television music competition to find new singing talent and the odds were in our Dalton’s favour to win.

Dalton performed duets with Emeli Sande and James Artgur for the finale.

What did he win with the title?

Dalton is set to be rewarded with a recording contract with Syco Records, Simon Cowell’s label owned by Sony valued at about 1 million pounds!

Scarlett Lee came second after a stunning duet with previous X Factor star,  Leona Lewis.

Anthony Russell reached third place after a collaboration with singer songwriter, Tom Walker.

What’s next for Dalton?

The singer is releasing a rendition of The Power of Love in a bid for Christmas Number One.

Suga does Lunch Gypsy style at Gypsy House Tapas!

Suga’s Breakdown:

Quiet restaurant tucked away on the side of Chelsea Avenue that is appropriate for a lunch or dinner date. The location smears aesthetics, but inside is a whole different world, a gypsy world.

The menu has a variety of items falling under the category of international cuisine, but highlights Spanish and Jamaican dishes.

The staff, including Head Chef, Shane Stamp were polite and welcoming. I believe that for such a unique menu, my server, Kereen should have given me a brief introduction to the dishes of various cuisines being offered. The menu takes you from Jamaica to Mexico, over the wall to the USA, deports you back to Puerto Rico, then takes you on a tour as far as Spain and more. Kereen could have been a bit more attentive too, to check how my lunch was going. Afterall, I was by my lonesome.

I am not sure why, but my appetizer and main were served at the same time. I ordered Gypsy House favourites.

20181128_040207
Saltfish Ceviche ($500JMD +tx +Serv. charge) – Pick up saltfish served on top of twice fried, pressed green plantains
20181128_040240
Seafood Paella ($1000JMD +tx +Serv. charge) – Classic Spanish one pot, yellow rice, vegetables, Chorizo, Seafood and Chicken

Servings were large for a reasonable price. The Saltfish Ceviche was tasty indeed. Their Seafood Paella was nose-running spicy and full of flavour. I enjoyed it.

Kereen informed me that Mama Gypsy Jerk Chicken and Island Pancakes, as well as the Char Sui Pork Belly appetizer are favourites too. So I will probably give those a try next time.

Gypsy House was definitely value for money. I have had food from Gypsy House Tapas at various local events, but I prefer dining there.

Check out Gypsy House Tapas Restaurant for Lunch or Dinner this week!

Make this Thanksgiving Appetizer early!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Here is a recipe from The Café Sucre Farine that you can make ahead of time to make your dinner prep easier. (Author: Chris Scheuer)

Rosemary Pecan Goat Cheese Truffles

20181122_050507
Source: The Cafe Sucre Farine (https://pin.it/3iom6tzdjr6xgb)

Ingredients
6 ounces plain goat cheese softened for an hour at room temperature
4 ounces cream cheese softened for an hour at room temperature
¾ cup chopped pecans
1 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon honey
½ teaspoon Sriracha
¼ teaspoon kosher salt
2 tablespoons currants
2 tablespoons dried cranberries
2 tablespoons golden raisins
1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh rosemary
3 tablespoons finely chopped fresh parsley

Instructions
1. Combine softened goat cheese and cream cheese in a medium size bowl. Whisk together until smooth and creamy, then refrigerate for at least one hour or place mixture in the freezer for 15-20 minutes.
2. While cheese is chilling, preheat oven to 325ËšF. Line a small sheet pan with parchment paper.
3. Combine pecans, oil, honey and Sriracha on the prepared pan. Bake for 3 minutes then remove pan from oven and stir well. Return to oven and bake another 3-5 minutes or until pecans are golden brown. Remove from oven and sprinkle with kosher salt. Toss and set aside to cool.
4. Combine cooled pecans, dried fruit, chopped rosemary and chopped parsley on a dinner plate. Set aside.
5. Scoop up 1 tablespoon size portions of the chilled cheese mixture and roll into balls (the balls will be a bit sticky, but chilling helps make it less sticky). Drop the ball onto the plate with the pecan coating and gently roll the cheese ball around in the mixture, patting it into the cheese, until it is fully coated. At this point you can reshape your balls into nicer circles, if they have become misshapen. Place on a clean dinner plate and place in the refrigerator until 30 minutes prior to serving.
Serve with crackers, crostini or pita wedges or on their own for a low carb appetizer.

So many flavours in 1 bite! Enjoy!
