16-year old, Briana Williams won amongst a stacked field of predominantly 18-year olds in her 100m and 200m finals.

Jamaica’s Briana Williams edged out the World Leader from USA, Twanisha Terry to win the 100m in 11.16s.

She had a more convincing win for the 200m, clocking 22.50s in Championship record time.

Briana’s Coach, Ato Boldon says that she should be finishing high school before going pro. There is no rush.

Congrats Briana!

ANGELIQUE KERBER wins her 1st Wimbledon title!

Angelique Kerber is the first German to win Wimbledon since Steffi Graf in 1996. After a 2-hour delayed start time, she beat the mother of all Champions, Serena Williams 6-3, 6-3. She caught Serena on a bad day, off her serve and overhitting shots, but she held serve, mixed things up when she needed to and stuck to her game. Well done and Congrats to Angelique Kerber!

NOVAK DJOKOVIC shows he is back with a WIMBLEDON TITLE WIN!

FRANCE WINS the WORLD CUP 4 – 2 over CROATIA!

Goal Scorers for France in yesterday’s World Cup Final

France has done it! France won the World Cup with a 4 – 2 victory over Croatia yesterday. It was an exciting game from start to finish with an early own goal by Mandzukic of Croatia, giving France the lead, then an equalizer by Perisic of Croatia. Afterwards, it was all about France. Griezmann scored a penalty given from a hand ball, then Pogba and Mbappé scored brilliant goals. Mandzukic with the self redemption for the own goal, beat France’s goalkeeper, Lloris all on his own and spoiled the party a bit with an awkward goal for Croatia.

Croatia ran out of time and France became victorious after 20 years! It’s a wrap folks!

How the World Cup Semifinalists stack up vs. each other and the Schedule!

20180709_223630
Photo: ESPN

We’re finally down to 4 and the Semifinals kick off with FRANCE vs BELGIUM at 1pm today followed by ENGLAND vs. CROATIA at 1pm tomorrow!

The French and Belgian teams are stacked with quality and both topped their groups, making the Semifinal seem like a Final. Not to mention, they both sent home World Cup favourites, Argentina and Brazil respectively.

Regardless of who strikes first or early, weapons run deep for both sides.

Handicaps?

France

Thierry Henry, who was on France’s World Cup winning team in 1998 is on Belgium’s coaching staff and is Belgium’s star striker, Lukaku’s mentor.

Belgium

Belgium’s right-wing-back, Thomas Meunier is suspended, which will cause weakness in Belgium’s formation.

It is likely that the young, fresh England squad will win their Semifinal against a tired, beat up Croatia. But the result of today’s match is highly unknown until the whistle blows for the final time.

How are the Teams Stacking up versus each other for Today’s Matches?!

Today’s Quarterfinals are highly anticipated for this World Cup! Check the schedule here.

Schedule (Ja time)

FRANCE VS. URUGUAY @ 9am

BRAZIL VS. BELGIUM @ 1pm

France vs. Uruguay

It will be France’s attack versus Uruguay’s defense! Uruguay has just conceded 1 goal for the tournament so far. On the other hand, France’s forward, Kylian Mbappe is like the Usain Bolt of football.

Handicaps:

Integral central midfielder for France, Blaise Matuidi got his 2nd yellow in the Round of 16 match versus Argentina. So he will be on the bench today.

Uruguay’s striker, Cavani falls in match versus Portugal with Hamstring injury (Photo: Daily Mail)

It is unlikely that striker, Edinson Cavani will play for Uruguay. He pulled up with a hamstring injury versus Portugal in the round of 16. His teammate, Adil Rami says that Cavani will have to ‘destroy science to face France’. That is likely to be true since hamstring injuries can be a showstopper. They have to get weeks, possibly months of rest, depending on the severity of the injury.

Uruguay’s other popular striker, Luis Suarez isn’t worried though. He says that Uruguay can cope without injured Cavani. We shall see!

Brazil vs. Belgium

Brazil have Neymar, but have been defending more than attacking, just conceding 1 goal so far. Brazil are tournament favourites, but Belgium is being described as one of the most exciting teams, nicknamed Red Devils. This is especially after Belgium’s epic comeback versus Japan in the last round of 16.

Today is D-Day for Lionel Messi and Argentina!

20180626_012627.jpg

Argentina’s coach has been sidelined!  He has allegedly been putting players in positions they are not accustomed to or played in, hence the poor results so far. Messi and his team will be in charge of choosing persons to play versus Nigeria today in their match of elimination, since they currently sit at the bottom of the table. A convincing win over Nigeria is a MUST, but Argentina’s fate of moving beyond the group stage also depends on the Croatia-Iceland match.

So Denmark and Australia will play hard to move on from Group C today as they face France and Peru respectively at 9am Ja time, but all eyes will be on Group D at 1pm Ja time!

Road to Russia for the Reggae Boyz begins Tonight at 8pm vs Nicaragua

PhotoGrid_1441325740543

The euphoria of how well the Reggae Boyz did in the Gold Cup is still in the air, but a clean slate starts tonight as they begin to dodge some pot holes, starting at 8pm in the National Stadium versus Nicaragua with the hope of a place in the World Cup Finals in Russia 2018 as their final destination.

So how do they move on after tonight’s match?

The return leg will be next Tuesday in Nicaragua with the hope that the Reggae Boyz will advance to the 4th round on aggregate and go into Group B with Costa Rica and Panama, as well as the winner of Haiti vs Grenada. The top 2 teams will then advance to the 5th and final round, where the top 3 teams will head to Russia! The team in 4th place will be entered into a Continental Play-off.

Good Luck Reggae Boyz! Keep playing with heart and pride!
