#tbt to Skipping Breakfast & Having Brunch Danya’s Coffee Barrel!

Just too much niceness on Danya’s Coffee Barrel’s (Ig: @danyascoffeebarrel) menu though! It was hard to choose. So I skipped breakfast and made room for brunch 3 Saturdays ago.

Saturday?! Yes. If you don’t work or go downtown during the week, Danya’s is usually open on the last Saturday of every month.

They are located across from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade by the Grace Kennedy building and you can use their parking.

I had the Smoked Marlin Bagel and Ackee Sandwich that had Plantain! Absolutely delicious + great Coffee. Yes, I love Cafes.
Maybe I will feature more this week, but in the mean time, check out Danya’s Coffee Barrel! You can dine, pick up or get it delivered. Danya’s continues to be #SugaEndorsed.

#fbf to Brunching at Bellefield Great House! A Hidden Gem.

Gabrielle and Randolph Burgess, Owners and Suga Tasters for Suga Lifestyle

A hidden gem for Kingstonians that is!
To Montegonians and as stated by Bellefield, it’s the place where Award winning Chef Robbie Joseph has created an exquisite menu featuring classic international dishes alongside traditional Jamaican cuisine to satisfy every palette.

Bellefield Great House and Gardens, Fairfield Road, Montego Bay

Hubby and I brunched at Bellefield Great House and Gardens on Fairfield Road, Montego Bay a bit over a month ago in June, to close out my Birthday weekend.

Bellefield’s (Ig: @bellefield876) All You Can Eat Brunch Buffet is from 11am to 3pm. We arrived closer to 3pm, thinking we would get the ‘what lef’ or perhaps get the choice to order from the regular menu.
That wasn’t the case at all. We were greeted and invited to Brunch, as you could only order from the regular menu from 4pm onwards.

The place was buzzing with activity with families and friends celebrating birthdays amongst one another. The live cooking Pasta and Pancake stations were still in action. Fresh food was still being brought out to  replenish any empty chafers and freshly made beverages were available from a few dispensers.

You could pick, choose and refuse from what was on offer. The typical Jamaican or American breakfast, in addition to the lunch options we all love. Curry Goat, Potato Salad, Escovitch Fish, Roast Beef and more!

The food was on point! Absolutely flavourful and delicious. Succulent cuts of Beef, soft Plantain mmm! We were impressed.

If you love sweet, Dessert options were endless as well. Quite a variety of basic desserts, nothing gourmet, but well presented and they would definitely hit your sweet spot.

The Bar was downstairs if you wished to order any drinks that weren’t readily available with the Brunch offerings.

All You Can Eat surrounded by a picturesque historic Great House and lush Gardens J$3750 (incl. Tx) each ?! Amazing and #SugaEndorsed.

Brunch is this and every Sunday at Bellefield Great House from 11am – 3pm and you can make reservations. Go check it out!

Suga’s Birthday Stay at Charela Inn, Negril!

Suga Fam! You’ve been asking where I stayed for my Birthday Weekend, here you go!

Watch “Suga’s Birthday Stay at Charela Inn, Negril!” on YouTube here:

https://youtube.com/shorts/ocuHpoblKeA?feature=share

Thanks Luxury Jamaica (Ig: @luxuryja) and The Storyteller (Ig: @thestorytellerja) for an unforgettable weekend at Charela Inn (Ig: @charelainn)!

I had so many beautiful moments to put together that were captured and experienced at Charela Inn.

An aged, but well kept family-owned boutique hotel located on Negril’s famous Seven Mile Beach with airy rooms leading to beach views.

Lush, tropical gardens surround their round swimming pool and they have endless Coconut trees providing natural shade on the beach. Just beautiful.

Charela Inn has long standing, friendly staff, experienced bartenders and fresh, homemade cuisine. Vegetables, spices and meat come from their own farm!
We enjoyed our typical eggs your way Breakfast and the morning we had Jamaican Breakfast, it was quite satisfying. What a wholesome plate 😋

Their meals are a fusion of Jamaican and French cuisine, representing the owners and I must say, their French Pizza gave the Italians a run for their money. Fantastic!

We would have loved to experience more of their French cuisine at Dinner, but we explored other spots on the beach.
So next time! See you again soon Charela Inn!

For my Kingstonian fam, it’s not the journey, it’s the destination.
Suga Tip: Leave town early in the morning on the way to and from Negril and restaurant hop in Ocho Rios, Montego Bay or both!

XoXo,
Suga💖😎

Throwing it Back to Kenny’s Italian Café for My Birthday!

With an NBA Finals game on my Birthday and when in Negril, I had to choose Kenny’s Italian Café (Ig: @italiancafejamaica)! So familiar to me with great Italian food, good Bartenders, good vibes and TV screens. That’s all I needed 😁🎉

We had their Soup of the Day, a tasty Caprese Salad, followed up by delish, flavourful, herby Shrimp Spaghetti Puttanesca and I swapped my Shrimp Alfredo to Tomato sauce. I still asked them to work on a Pesto or light White Wine sauce for the Pastas, but they were delectable nonetheless.

Thanks sooo much for making my Birthday even more special. There were two others in the house and we rocked it to different songs. Appreciated that Mr. DJ!

Kenny’s Italian literally got the entire staff to chime in for the Birthday serenade, like WOW, plus a Free Birthday Shot. Okrrrr Partayyy 💃🥃🥃🎉

Thanks for showing Suga Amore always…I returned the following night for Drinks too. Dangerous Bartender you have there, but not calling any names 😃💖

Suga Finds the Key to the Pie at Blue Skies Beach Resort!

Fairly new from welcoming first guests last year and published earlier this year by The Jamaica Observer, we learnt that US civil rights attorney, Dana Kurtz opened Blue Skies Beach Resort (Ig: @blueskiesbeachresort) and realised her dream. This led to her also driving the dreams of aspiring Jamaican Chefs.

I can appreciate the old authenticity of shacks and huts on Negril beach, but appreciate modernizing it even more. Negril is one of the top tourist destinations in the world and we should move with the times and strive to keep it as such.

If strolling on Negril’s 7 mile beach, you cannot miss the Blue Skies Beach Resort. Bright blue and new furnishings on its wooden sea deck with not one, but 2 bars and blazing music. They also advertised having the best Coffee on the beach, but we were on a Rum run.

Fast forward to night time, we approached from Norman Manley Boulevard where they have a bit of construction happening for greater things to come. There was a Baby Shower happening on the top deck, but we were still able to get suitable parking.

With the event happening, more staff should have been on deck (literally) that night, but Chef Sanika Clarke picked up double duty and greeted us like guests to her own home. She took our order and still attended to us even when our server, Veronica introduced herself to us mid-service. Veronica was quite hospitable as well.

Blue Skies Beach Resort focuses on Jamaican cuisine, but had International and Italian options as well.
We enjoyed the enhanced flavours of each dish by local herbs, spices and fresh farm veggies, topped off by freshly made, scrumptious dessert made by Chef Sanika herself.

🍴Spicy Crayfish soup (spicy and tasty!)
🍴Chicken soup (tasty!)

🍴Fried Farm Fresh Okra (delish!)

🍴Roasted Conch (yum, nom nom!)
🍴Oxtail (a bit too heavy on the spices & herbs, but still tasty)
🍴Bread Pudding (the Rum Caramel sauce was 🔥)
🍴Key Lime Pie (Perfection👌🏾👏🏾)

Blue Skies Beach Resort is definitely #SugaEndorsed.

Call Suga. I Found Some Good Oxtail on Negril Beach!

Suga dining seaside by Indies 957 at White Sands Negril last Saturday, June 11, 2022.

It just took a walk on Negril beach to find some fairly new spots with good, Jamaican food.

Indies957 at White Sands Negril (Ig:@whitesandsnegril) is the spot for Oxtail!

Control yourself with portions and save space for dinner😀

Oxtail with rice and peas and raw veggies.

The right balance in seasoning, but also a good cut of Oxtail! Tender to the bone. Cut and slide 👌🏾

Indies 957 is a neat spot for Lunch with a view of the Caribbean sea from up top and courteous, down to earth staff.

You can check out Indies 957 at White Sands Negril for Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner. #SugaEndorsed

Suga’s Comments:

Cafe Etal, one of the additions to the fairly new Knutsord Express Terminal Building in Drax Hall, Ocho Rios is not only a convenient stop, but a comfy stop.

You can choose to sit indoors or outdoors with a view of the greenery and road above the Café, while you stop for Breakfast or Lunch and Coffee your way.

We were welcomed pleasantly and received great service.

We had Eggs over easy with French Toast, Bacon and Chicken sausage with Coffee. I had a customized, skinny Frappé. They had almond milk and splenda to substitute their milk and sweeteners. No whipped cream.

Persons who take the Knutsford can order before the bus makes a quick stop or drop off there. The Café and facilities are clean, the menu has a variety of affordable options and the food is tasty. Check out Cafe Etal today. #SugaEndorsed

#tbt to Dinner at this Hot Family Dining Spot!

Gabrielle Burgess a.k.a Suga of Suga Lifestyle at South Avenue Grill last March 19, 2022.

It’s been a little while since we made this visit towards the end of March. Nonetheless, South Avenue Grill (Ig: @southavenuegrill) used to be an old favourite for us, especially for Steak and we spontaneously revisited it one Saturday night for dinner.

The restaurant was buzzing with a full house of diners, mostly families, in addition to persons waiting to be seated. We quickly realised this is a place you have to make reservations. The wait wasn’t long to be seated, but Apps took half hour to come out and our Mains, a bit over half hour after that. We appreciated our server, Carlene being attentive with giving us updates and checking on us though.

Check out what we had!

Fowl pon fire, that needed a bit more wood for the fire. More heat please!

Wings
Thai Coconut Curry Chicken
Steak with black beans and mashed potatoes.

We also had Wings, Thai Coconut Curry Chicken, Steak with black beans and mashed potato. The Steak wasn’t as juicy as it used to be and though presentation may not be the best, it was still some decent food and we left feeling satisfied.
We still saw their usual huge servings of Burgers and cheesy Shrimp Pastas pass us by!

Happy to see South Avenue Grill
still buzzing. I would revisit in the day time during the week with reservations.
