CHAMPS, Wing Sauce Competition & Farmer’s Market This Saturday in Mona!

IMG-20190319-WA0001

Non-profit organization, New Kingston Rotaract Club (Youth arm of Rotary) is having their annual Wing Sauce Competition this Saturday, March 30th by the Mona Dam. Like last year, they are having a Farmer’s Market too, encouraging us to eat healthy and buy our local produce, while contributing to charity at the same time. It’s a win-win for everyone.

Judging and sampling usually takes place at about 2:30/3:00pm. Suga will be judging again!

Then you can head down to the National Stadium to watch our very own young athletes put on quite a show at Champs! The writing is on the wall for the Girls with Edwin Allen, but for the Boys, will KC beat Calabar this year as they seem to be in position to do, or did they peak too early in the season?

Keep up with Suga Lifestyle’s Facebook and Instagram Page to keep updated with Champs and keep up with the New Kingston Rotaract Club by following them on Instagram @nkrcjamaica. If you are between the ages of 18-30, see how you can join them!

Andrew is a community – based service organization, sponsored by the Rotary Club of St. Andrew. It is comprised of young professionals committed to the commonality of improving inner-city communities and creating opportunities for promising individuals within the Kingston Metropolitan Area. Last week was World Rotaract Week. It was a time for celebrating the success and importance of the Rotaract programme.

Last Thursday, March 14th, the Rotaract Club of St. Andrew donated Professional Wear to Dress for Success Jamaica as a part of their World Rotaract Week celebration.

Dress for Success Jamaica is also a non-profit organization. They empower women by providing them with work attire, training and support so that they can achieve economic independence.

President Vanessa Williams of the Rotaract Club of New Kingston assists with the distribution of lunches at the Marie Atkins Night Shelter on January 12, 2019.

On January 12, 2019, the Rotaract Club of New Kingston started the new year the right way. They coordinated a Treat for the Homeless at the Marie Atkins Night Shelter on Hanover Street, Downtown, Kingston.

Suga Lifestyle was more than happy to be a sponsor for the event, along with Jamaica Producers, Kirk Distributors Ltd., Cari-Med Ltd., Best Dressed Jamaica Ltd. and Refresh Beauty Soap.

I saw the event through and it was a success once again this year. Persons that lived at the home along with other members of the surrounding community, came out in their numbers to receive various services and items offered such as Medical checks, Dental and Cleaning checks, HIV Screening, Personal Grooming, Eye screening by the Lions Club, Canned Food and Clothing Donations.

Suga was delegated the task of adding a personal touch to speak to attendees about proper Nutrition. Their options may have been limited, but points made by conversations with several of them were of great help. For instance, to choose boiled ground provisions instead of rice and peas or plain rice and to drink water instead of sugary, fruit punch or fruit juices.

St. Andrew Rotary makes new addition to Curlin Johnson Basic School

20181112_035305.jpg

The St. Andrew Rotary Club donated two white boards to a classroom at Curlin Johnson Basic School at 1 Saunders Avenue, Kingston about two weeks ago. They were well received.

However small, projects like these have a huge impact on the recipients and these projects inspire others to make an impact and change as well.

Kudos to the St. Andrew Rotary Club for their charitable services. Our Children are our Future.

It’s World Polio Day! Help Eradicate Polio from the 3 Countries left with it in the World

It’s World Polio Day. In 1988, the Polio virus was endemic to 125 countries.
Today, only 3 countries in the world have never stopped the transmission of Polio- Pakistan, Afghanistan and    Nigeria. Despite the progress achieved since 1988, as long as a single child remains infected with Poliovirus, children in all countries are at risk of contracting the disease.
