Wing Sauce Competition and Farmer’s Market this Saturday in Mona!

Screenshot_2018-03-13-15-17-16-1.png

There are so many things happening this weekend! Not to worry though, if you schedule your time well, you can make it to all of the events.

Non-profit organization, New Kingston Rotaract Club (Youth arm of Rotary) is having their annual Wing Sauce Competition this Saturday, March 24th by the Mona Dam. However, this time they are also having a Farmer’s Market encouraging us to eat healthy and buy our local produce, while contributing to charity at the same time. It’s a win-win for everyone.

Judging and sampling usually takes place at about 2:30/3:00pm. Suga will be judging too!

So, after returning from the Jamaica Coffee Festival in Newcastle, you can make your way over to the Mona Dam. You can enjoy watching non-profit organizations battle to become the Wing Sauce Champs, probably sample a few tasty wings, buy some fresh, local produce and then head over to the National Stadium to see our Boys and Girls Champs. After all, the hot races are usually run in the late afternoon and evening.

You can then pat yourselves on the back for supporting Brand Jamaica, contributing to Charity and supporting our future in Education and Athletics all in one day. Scouts from some of the best colleges around the world will be at the National Stadium to watch and recruit our athletes.

Keep up with the New Kingston Rotaract Club by following them on Instagram @nkrcjamaica and if you are between the ages of 18-30, see how you can join them!

Stay tuned for your update on the Jamaica Coffee Festival later this week!

Support this Clothes and Canned Food Drive for the Homeless

Screenshot_2018-01-08-05-32-28-1.png

As we have gotten our start to the New Year, we may start to wonder how we are going to restock our fridges after all the Christmas leftovers have finished and it isn’t even the end of January yet. So imagine the Homeless after the most generous time of 2017 is over. They may have run out of food supplies too.

When shopping or if you have any extra in the cupboard, please pick up a few Canned Food items and support the New Kingston Rotaract Club’s Canned Food drive that lasts until this Thursday, January 11. If you happened to skip cleaning out the closets at the end of 2017, they are having a Clothes Drive as well. Note that Monetary Contributions are accepted too and the New Kingston Rotaract Club is based in New Kingston, Jamaica.

Donated items will help to feed and clothe the Homeless at the Marie Atkins Shelter in Downtown, Kingston. The shelter is run by The Poor Relief Department and feeds and clothes a bit over 100 homeless persons each night.

Please email [email protected],text or call 876-387-2827 or 876-357-0308 to find out where you can drop off your donations.

Keep up with the New Kingston Rotaract Club by following them on Instagram @nkrcjamaica and if you are between the ages of 18-30 see how you can join them!

Rotaractors help to give Jamaica a facelift on Labour Day

Screenshot_2016-05-25-10-52-01-1.png
Rotaract Club members of Savanna-la-Mar paint the Savanna-la-Mar hospital on Labour Day last Monday

Some Jamaicans kept the the tradition of going to work on Labour Day by helping to give Jamaica a facelift, painting and doing repairs to Public buildings, roads, their offices, homes and more.

Kudos to all who could have used it as a rest day but decided to take on the manual labour.

Out of the many great Projects that Suga saw happening on that day, Suga would like to highlight the Repainting of parts of the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital by the Rotaract Club of Savanna-la-Mar and the Repainting of a Pedestrian crossing that was a joint project between the Rotaract Clubs of St. Andrew, Liguanea Plains, St. Thomas and New Kingston.

Members of the Rotaract Clubs of St. Andrew, Liguanea Plains, St. Thomas and New Kingston repaint a Pedestrian crossing on Labour Day last Monday

Sometimes Jamaicans may see Pedestrian crossings and still choose to cross the road at another point and put themselves in danger.

Hopefully the brighter Pedestrian crossings as a result of the work done on Labour Day will remind Jamaicans that they should cross there.

Remember to do your part to help Build a Better Jamaica.
