We’re finally down to 4 and the Semifinals kick off with FRANCE vs BELGIUM at 1pm today followed by ENGLAND vs. CROATIA at 1pm tomorrow!

The French and Belgian teams are stacked with quality and both topped their groups, making the Semifinal seem like a Final. Not to mention, they both sent home World Cup favourites, Argentina and Brazil respectively.

Regardless of who strikes first or early, weapons run deep for both sides.

Handicaps?

France

Thierry Henry, who was on France’s World Cup winning team in 1998 is on Belgium’s coaching staff and is Belgium’s star striker, Lukaku’s mentor.

Belgium

Belgium’s right-wing-back, Thomas Meunier is suspended, which will cause weakness in Belgium’s formation.

It is likely that the young, fresh England squad will win their Semifinal against a tired, beat up Croatia. But the result of today’s match is highly unknown until the whistle blows for the final time.

It will be France’s attack versus Uruguay’s defense! Uruguay has just conceded 1 goal for the tournament so far. On the other hand, France’s forward, Kylian Mbappe is like the Usain Bolt of football.

Handicaps:

Integral central midfielder for France, Blaise Matuidi got his 2nd yellow in the Round of 16 match versus Argentina. So he will be on the bench today.

It is unlikely that striker, Edinson Cavani will play for Uruguay. He pulled up with a hamstring injury versus Portugal in the round of 16. His teammate, Adil Rami says that Cavani will have to ‘destroy science to face France’. That is likely to be true since hamstring injuries can be a showstopper. They have to get weeks, possibly months of rest, depending on the severity of the injury.

Uruguay’s other popular striker, Luis Suarez isn’t worried though. He says that Uruguay can cope without injured Cavani. We shall see!

Brazil vs. Belgium

Brazil have Neymar, but have been defending more than attacking, just conceding 1 goal so far. Brazil are tournament favourites, but Belgium is being described as one of the most exciting teams, nicknamed Red Devils. This is especially after Belgium’s epic comeback versus Japan in the last round of 16.
