What’s Happening at the French Open?

Hello Tennis fans! Suga hasn’t forgotten you!

Women’s Singles

Serena Williams (2) is on maternity leave and watching from the stands this French Open. So who is still in it for the Ladies?!

Her sister, Venus of course! Can Venus Williams (10) win another Grand Slam before she retires? It is very possible. She has been on top of her game and already through to the 4th round.

Who will stand in her way?

The Women’s side of the draw is usually a toss up, especially without Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams.

World #1, Angelique Kerber has been inconsistent and was defeated in the 1st round in straight sets by Tsurenko Makarova. Makarova was defeated in the 2nd round.

Suga thinks Venus’ biggest threat is Defending Champ, Garbine Muguruza (4), who is also moving on to Round 4.

Simona Halep (3) was questionable to enter the French Open because she injured her ankle in a tournament before this, but she is already through to Round 3. I don’t think she is in it for the long run though.

Agnieszka Radwanska (9) and Elina Svitolina (5) are through to Round 3.

Rounding off the top 10 ladies, Svetlana Kiznetsova (8) is through to the 4th round.

If Venus doesn’t win the French, my money is on her to win Wimbledon.

Men’s Singles

Novak Djokovic (2) seems to be back in Championship shape and he is now being coached by one of the greats, Andre Agassi. He is already through to Round 4 but may be destined to clash with the clay court specialist and veteran, Rafael Nadal (4) who is also through to Round 4.

Andy Murray (1) says he is feeling good again but he is still not at his best just yet. He will play Juan del Potro (29) in Round 3.

Milos Raonic (5) and the Austrian, Dominic Thiem (6) are through to Round 4.

Kei Nishikori (8), Stan Wawrinka (3) and Marin Cilic (7) who round off the top 10 Men are in Round 3.

Gaël Monfils (15), who is usually very competitive is in Round 3 as well.

Suga thinks either Djoko or Rafa will take the French Open for the Men.

Remember the veteran, Roger Federer is sitting this one out to save his energy for the grass and hard courts. If he stays in top shape, I believe he will win Wimbledon. Do we have another vintage Finals coming up at Wimbledon for the Ladies and Men? Possible.

Stay tuned everyone!

Novak Djokovic wins his 1st French Open Title!

Novak Djokovic defeats Andy Murray in 4 sets 3-6,6-1,6-2,6-4 to win 12th Grand slam and 1st French Open Title!

This win also means he has won all 4 Grand Slam titles in 1 year. Amazing. This has not been done since 1969.

Djokovic now stands in the middle of the greats with Rafael Nadal and Pete Sampras above him with 14 Grand Slams and of course the legendary Roger Federer with 17.

Suga expects to see more titles from Djokovic in the near future.

Congrats Novak!

Garbine Muguruza wins her 1st Grand Slam title!

20160604_101659-1.jpg

This morning Garbine Muguruza played the best game of her life and beat Serena Williams in straight sets 7-5, 6-4. Her service games were strong as she also has a powerful serve, some were a consistent 174mph and she had excellent hits down the line. Her backhand certainly inproved since her last final versus Serena at Wimbledon 2015.

Serena has been denied yet again from reaching the historic 22 Grand Slams in the Open era and gave an emotional speech. Today was just not her day. Muguruza was the better player today.

Congrats to Spain’s Garbine Muguruza for winning her first Grand Slam title.

Serena goes for 22 Grand Slams this am again!

At 8am tune in to the Women’s French Open Finals at Roland Garros! Serena Williams will go up against no. 4 Garbine Muguruza of Spain. They met last year in the Wimbledon Final, which Serena had to fight hard to win.

Serena was denied in the last US Open Semifinals for chasing 22 to even Steffi Graf’s Open Era Gland Slam title record and again in the Australian Open Final this year. Muguruza has beaten Serena in the French Open before. Can Serena keep her cool and reach the 22 mark this time?

What a weekend of Sports!

Serena Williams kicked things off winning the French Open vs Lucie Safarova 6-3; 6-7; 6-2, thus achieving her 20th Grand Slam title as she battled with a bad case of the flu. She chases Steffi Graf with 22 Grand Slam titles at the top of the Open era. Keep it up Serena!

Then came the UEFA Champion’s League final with an exciting match between Juventus and Barcelona. The result? Barcelona won 3 goals to 1, including a winning goal by Luis Suarez and another goal to seal the deal in the last minute of stoppage time by Neymar. Tevez did not show up for Juventus at all that day. Congrats Barcelona. Well played and kudos to Gerard Pique’s great display of defence.

Minutes after came the Belmont Stakes, where American Pharoah won the big race!  He won the Triple Crown since he won the two other big races in the season, i.e. The Kentucky Derby and the Peakness Stakes. Why is this a big deal? This has not been accomplished in 37 years! A horse came close last year, winning two of the three with much anticipation to win the third at Belmont but failed to deliver. Congrats to Jockey, Victor Espinoza and trainer, Bob Baffert for winning their first Triple Crown. American Pharoah led the whole race and stretched his lead toward the end as eager spectators’ eyes turned into dollar signs as he crossed the finishing line first! The millions of dollars on that race was unreal.

Yesterday morning, the favourite, Novak Djokovic took a loss to Stan Wawrinka in the French Open final in 4 sets. Novak will have to wait another year before attempting to win the full set of major titles. Congrats Wawrinka for winning his 2nd Grand slam title, 4-6; 6-4;6-3;6-4!

To finish off the weekend, The Warriors and Cavs battled in Golden State where the Cavs came out on top with a 95-93 win in overtime. LeBron James failed once again to make the game winning shot during regulation, however he had amazing triple double stats for the night including 39 points! It was Delladova who was able to make the crucial shots to clench their win. Curry had a sloppy night and so did the rest of the team in my opinion, excluding Klay Thompson that definitely had a great night. The series is now tied 1-1 as they head to Cleveland for Game 3 on Tuesday.

Don’t you all just love this season?!
