Now here we are, having survived the pandemic, still feathered and a bit bothered, but inspired and motivated, taking on new challenges. Excited and feeling free to take flight and move forward, away from the pandemic.

Artist, Gabrielle Burgess with her NEW Painting, ‘QUEEN’ that was premiered at Suga Lifestyle’s GW Art Exhibition last Saturday at The Liguanea Club, New Kingston.
I have been wanting to paint ‘QUEEN’ for some time now, but needed to represent her in the right way. She still ended up looking different from what I visioned and sketched. At first, a head wrap with stunning African prints. But why cover? Then, she had thick, natural Hair, she had a tilted Crown and hoop Earrings were considered.
As sisters and fellow Queens, we should always straighten or fix each other’s Crowns. DONE
Then just as I was about to give her thick, natural Hair, through my eyes, I realised she was perfect, natural and beautiful just the way she was. I remembered, ‘I am not my hair’. I remembered my friends and family who have fought and survived Breast Cancer, gone through Chemo and their beauty was even more striking as they fought it and rocked it with no hair. And she definitely did not need Earrings. No Ears to hear the noise either. ‘Q U E E N’ 👑
