The World Championships in London Start TODAY!

Usain Bolt’s final Training session before London

It’s finally here! The World Championships in London, where Usain Bolt says he is ready to run his final 100m race and win!

Will Gatlin stand in his way? He has been unusually quiet this season but he is in good shape for the win and says he feels like the last time he won Worlds. But will he be a ‘bus conducta’ to collect silver just one more time?

Andre DeGrasse of Canada certainly won’t be standing in Bolt’s way. He didn’t even make it on the bus. He pulled out of the Championships officially yesterday with a hamstring strain.

Anyone else on the London bus? Ivory Coast’s Simbine always runs his best and a good race. But Suga doesn’t think he has what it takes for the win.

Young Coleman of the USA faded at US trials, tiring at the line to finish 2nd to Gatlin. So that is an indication that he needs to eat more cassava and is not ready for Jamaica’s Usain Bolt either.

Last but not least, let’s not forget Yohan Blake, formerly known as The Beast, now The Blessed. When he decides to just be himself he may have a good chance at Gold if it’s not too late.

Women’s 100m

Looking forward to see our Sprint Queen, Elaine Thompson light up the track in the Women’s 100m. She is currently in a class by herself.

Men’s 400m

Wayde Van Niekerk is also in a class by himself for the Men’s 400m. He’s entered to run the Men’s 200m too, which should be am easier task with DeGrasse out of the way.

Women’s 400m

Suga doesn’t think Bahamas’ Shaunae Miller is going to get past USA’s Allyson Felix this time, dive or no dive. Felix is in great shape for the win and will have fresh legs since the 400m is her only individual race.

Jamaica’s veteran, Novelene Williams-Mills may be competing for the last time but has been running well on the circuit. Suga hopes she can come away with the Bronze.

However her own compatriots, Shericka Jackson, Ristananna Tracey and Ronda Whyte may stand in her way. Ronda Whyte created quite an upset at the Jamaica trials, passing Ristananna Tracey and Shericka at the finish.

Women’s 200m

The Women’s 200m should be a showdown with USA’s Tori Bowie, Shaunae Miller of the Bahamas, Ivory Coast’s Marie-Josee Ta Lou and the ‘Dutchie’, Daphne Schippers.

Men’s 5000m and 10000m

Mohammed Farah aka Mobot of Great Britain should shine in his long distance races. He, like Usain Bolt is looking to cement his legacy on the track before hanging up his spikes and moving on to racing gear. He is going for the big Five, as he has already doubled twice at the Olympics and Worlds in the 5000m and 10000m.

Women’s 800m

Caster Semenya, another long distance fave, is in position to win the Women’s 800m. Suga sees noone challenging her.

Men’s 400m Hurdles

If age doesn’t play a number, the race for Gold should be between Olympic Champ, USA’s Kerron Clement (31 years) and young BVI’s Kyron McMaster (20yrs).

Jamaica’s National Champ, Jaheel Hyde and Kemar Mowatt also have a chance to medal.

Women’s 400m Hurdles

Olympic Champ, Dalilah Mohammad of the USA looked unbeatable at the US trials, clocking 52.64. However in recent performances she has failed to run below 54s.

Of the two other US athletes who looked strong at trials, both under 53s, only Kori Carter has been running at a high standard.

So Suga thinks, if the others peaked too early and fail to get back into form, Jamaica’s Janieve Russell has a good chance to get the Silver.

Men’s 110m Hurdles

Reigning Olympic Champ, Omar McLeod of Jamaica is the favourite for the Men’s 110m Hurdles but others are in good shape including former Olympic Champ, Aries Merritt. With Hurdles, anything can happen.

Women’s 100m Hurdles

It’s the same with the Women’s 100m hurdles. World record holder, USA’s Kendra Harrison should win on paper, but she choked at the US Olympic trials failing to even make the team to the Olympics. Does she have it in her to finally win gold?

Defending World Champ, Danielle Williams is in good shape but we all know she got that title by ‘buck ups’ due to a string of false starts, falls and injuries. Her competitors are in another league. However, if she keeps full focus and runs her race, she has the potential to go for at least the bronze medal. Don’t get your hopes up for her though.

Former Olympic Champ, Sally Pearson from Australia is back after a nasty fall that injured her arm severely. She is back but not fully back. She is definitely a contender for the podium though. So is, USA’s Sharika Nelvis.

Men’s Discus Throw

Will Jamaica’s Fredrick Dacres throw to his full potential this time around? If so, he has a good chance of getting the Silver with a SB of 68.88. Sweden’s Daniel Stâhl has thrown over 71 this season!

Our other Jamaican Competitor, Traves Smikle has been doing well and so have the Polish duo of Robert Urbanek and Piotr Malachowski.

Lithuania’s Andrius Gudžius and Belgium’s Philip Milanov also have a chance to medal.

***Usain Bolt will be running the 100m today and God’s willing tomorrow, as well as the 4×100m relay.

The Reggae Boyz will face the USA tonight in their 2nd straight Gold Cup Final.

They are the underdogs but have been playing like they want it. Our Goalkeeper has been sensational.

The Odds are 6.50 for them to win. Suga would never encourage anyone to bet on the Reggae Boyz but this may be your chance to win!

Congratulations to the Wimbledon Champs, Garbiñe Muguruza and Roger Federer!

Muguruza won her 2nd Grand Slam title and 1st Wimbledon Title. After Venus Williams missed a few set point opportunities in the 1st set, she took full advantage of hers, then took full charge in the 2nd set to win 7-5, 6-0.

For the Gentlemen, Marin Cilic, who already has a US Open title, had a good run but didn’t meet any of the big four until the Final with Roger Federer. He called for the trainers when down a set and down 3-0 in the second, visually breaking down in tears. But the trainers didn’t do anything for him until they were called after the second set. They unwrapped his foot and gave him some pills before the 3rd set. He still wasn’t moving as well but didn’t make the Final a complete blowout, as he was able to hold serve towards the end of the set before being broken. He was beaten by Federer, 6-3, 6-1, 6-4. In an interview with the Press, he stated that he developed a blister under his foot during the Semi Final that got worse. Regardless of the blister, I think Federer would have still won. It would have probably at least gone to 4 sets but Federer is at the top of his game and I think only Nadal can challenge him at this time.

Roger Federer’s win cemented his name into history as the greatest of all time yesterday by being the Gentleman to win the most Wimbledon titles ever, finally passing the great, Pete Sampras who had 7. He has also stretched his lead for the most Grand Slam titles to 19 over Rafael Nadal’s 15 titles.

Federer also has the chance to end the year as World #1 but is happy with enjoying his victory at Wimbledon at the moment.

Garbiñe Muguruza is a Wimbledon Champ!

1st set

Muguruza won the toss and allowed Venus to serve.
Both women held their games until late in the 1st set.
Venus had 2 break and set points when she was up 5-4, but could not convert them. She missed an easy forehand winner on the 2nd set point opportunity.
Muguruza then broke Venus to go up 6-5. She lost her 1st of 2 break points, then was able to convert the 2nd to win the 1st set 7-5.

2nd Set

Venus was broken at the start and just couldn’t recover. She had nothing left in the tank after a fatal accident, overcoming young 2017 French Open Champ, Jelena Ostapenko and the Brit, Johanna Konta.
Muguruza turned into a bulldozer and rolled over her to take the 2nd set, 6-0 and her 1st Wimbledon title.

Two years ago, Serena beat Muguruza in the Wimbledon Final and told her she would win Winbledon one day. Who knew it would be versus her sister.

Muguruza has been far from consistent in Grand Slam Tournaments but she had the privilege of being coached by vet and fellow Spaniard, Conchita Martínez in the last 2 weeks and was able to play the best tennis of her life and remain composed with more experience.

She is now the only player that has beaten both Serena and Venus Williams in a Grand Slam Final.

Wimbledon Update! Who’s still in it to Win it?!

Ladies Moving on to the QuarterFinals!

Garbine Muguruza (14), who reached the Final in 2015, upset World no. 1 Angelique Kerber today in quite a showdown, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. Kerber hasn’t been playing well all year and even had a scare after losing the 1st set and going to a tiebreak in the 2nd set with American, Shelby Rogers in the round before.

Kerber will lose the no. 1 ranking as a result of losing in the 4th round to Muguruza.

Venus Williams (10) is also moving on to the Quarter Finals. She had a few early, hard fought matches but cruised pass Ana Konjuh (27) in the 4th round, 6-3, 6-2.

French Open finalist, Simona Halep (2), who has never won a major, put a halt to Victoria Azarenka’s post-baby return.

The young American, Coco Vandeweghe (24) has been playing well under the guidance of her new Coach and upset Caroline Wozniacko (5) in straight sets. Wozniacki usually has difficulties on the grass.

Jelena Ostapenko (13) has not lost a match since her 1st career win at the French Open this year! She beat Elena Svitolina (4), who has been suffering from a foot injury in straight sets, 6-3, 7(8)-6(6).

Unseeded, Magdaléna Rybarikova is still in it and will play Coco in the Quarterfinals.

Svetlana Kuznetsova took out Agnieszka Radwanska in straight sets to get to the Quarterfinals. Radwanska had the task of beating Timea Bacsinsky in the 3rd round before meeting Kuznetsova.

Home favourite, Johanna Konta (6) is also through to the Quarters.

Gilles Müller (16) upset Rafael Nadal (4) in an epic 5-set thriller today, 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 15-13! They went really deep into that 5th set.

Home fave and World no. 1, Andy Murray is safely through to the Quarterfinals.

Roger Federer (3), who decided to forego the Clay court season at his age, is doing well on his road to claiming a historic title. He beat Grigor Dimitrov (13) in straight sets to advance to the Quarterfinals.

Tomás Berdych (11) upset Dominic Thiem (8) in 5 sets. Berdych now awaits the winner of the Novak Djokovic (2) and Adrian Mannarino match tomorrow morning at 6am. Mannatino just defeated Gaël Monfils (15).

The Golden State Warriors are the 2017 NBA Champions!!!

CONGRATULATIONS to the GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS for winning the 2017 NBA Finals. They beat the Cavaliers 129-120 to seal the NBA Finals series 4-1, which was Suga’s original prediction before a sweep looked possible and the Refs intervened Game 4.

It is the first NBA Finals where 4 players averaged 25+ points, which was achieved by Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and LeBron James.

LeBron James was sensational, putting up 41 points and JR Smith was spectacular with 25 points including 7-8 from the 3-point line. His only miss from the 3-point line was late in the 4th when the Cavs started to crumble seeing the Championship slip away from them. He regrouped and put in another 3-point sinker that was just too late.

Kyrie Irving played well, scoring 26 points. But he was benched on and off as he suffered aches and pains that naturally come at this time of the post-season. He will have the entire summer to rest now.

Tristan Thompson finally stepped up and scored 15 points. He seemed to have switched places with Kevin Love. Love was scoreless for most of the game because he was benched after the first few minutes of the game when he committed 2 early fouls. He eventually ended up with just 6 points.

The Cavs just weren’t good enough.

Apart from an 18-point lead by the Warriors at one point, the game was quite close for the most part and extremely physical to say the least.

The turning point was Andre Iguodala’s (Iggy’s) dunk to change the momentum of the game and to wake up the Warriors who were playing well but not looking like they wanted to seize Game 5 and the Championship.

At that point, Davis West shook things up further after he went for a rebound and Kyrie Irving tried to wrestle the ball away from him. West got fired up and so did Tristan Thompson who also went for the rebound but lost out on it. He came and pushed West and so did JR Smith who ran in on the action from a mile away. West, Tristan Thompson and JR Smith were all given technical fouls.

LeBron James then gave an earful to a laughing Kevin Durant (KD) and Draymond Green and backed up all his talking by sinking a 3. Coach Steve Kerr smartly and immediately called a time out. Then the Warriors prevented an angry comeback from LeBron James.

Stephen Curry was explosive in the first half, but not so much in the second half. His 3-point mojo was missing. He assisted some crucial plays to the basket in the 2nd half though. He scored a total of 34 points.

Klay Thompson scored 11 points. It seems like a small amount, but he contributed throughout the game offensively and defensively and hit those 3s when they were needed or mattered the most.

It was KD and Iggy that really carried the team down the stretch. KD scored 39 points, the most he scored in the Finals, scoring over 30 each game. Iggy came up big from the bench with 20 points, highlighted by dunks and a few 3s.

KD did everything you can think of to secure his 1st NBA Championship ring, from assists to rebounds, dunks, layups, drives through the lane, jumpers and those 3s that broke the Cavs’ heart. K-Dagger.

Last night he was the real MVP.

LeBron’s fans will ask, ‘What more could he have done?’ LeBron stated, I left everything on the floor for all 5 games.’ I could almost agree. He played great baskbetball, but not when it counted. Game 4 to save face from a potential sweep and Game 5 at the Warrior’s homecourt is just too late to show up when necessary. Let’s not even talk about the Game 1 and 2 blowouts. But Game 3?! The game back on Cleveland’s homecourt? LeBron just wasn’t clutch. Here is a reminder of how LeBron could have been better and turned this Final around – LeBron missed a driving lay-up in the late 4th and had his 3-point shot attempt blocked by Andre Iguodala with 12s left. He made the offensive rebound then stepped out of bounds resulting in a turnover with 10s left. That’s just an example of a potential 5 points gone out the window. The end result of Game 3 was Warriors 118 – Cavs 113. To be the GOAT, you have to be clutch and that title still belongs to Michael Jordan with 6 rings.

At the end of the day, the Warriors were hungrier and played much closer to their full potential compared to the Cavaliers.

Well done and well deserved Championship win for Coaches Steve Kerr, Mike Brown and the Warriors team.

Congrats to the internet too, that keeps winning.

Usain Bolt’s Final Race on Jamaican Soil!

If you somehow missed it, the legendary Usain Bolt ran his final race on Jamaican soil last Saturday, June 10 in 10.03s. Ironically, this was the time Usain ran to convince Coach Mills that he could compete in the 100m event.

The crowd at the National Stadium was filled to capacity with 35,000 people!

His Final International race will be at the World Championships in London later this year.

Thanks for everything you have done for Jamaica and Athletics Usain Bolt! Unforgettable. You will be missed.

Rafael Nadal wins his 10th French Open and Game 5 of the NBA Finals is tonight!

Rafael Nadal defeated Stan Wawrinka yesterday to win the French Open for his record 10th time, 6-2, 6-3, 6-1!

The scoreline was no indication of the quality of the match played. Wawrinka was good but the King of the Clay was spectacular. His coverage of the court was remarkable. Congrats Rafa!

NBA FINALS – GAME 5

The current scoreline of the series after Friday’s game is Warriors – 3, Refs – 1, Cavs – 0.

Lebron James and Kyrie Irving played great basketball on Friday night to end the game with a high scoring NBA Finals record of 137-116, but it was overshadowed by blatant unfair calls from the Refs. The Refs even blundered seriously by ejecting Draymond Green from the game because they had him down for a technical instead of Coach Kerr, who was originally given the technical. So when Draymond actually got his technical later in the game, they attempted to eject him. They had to revisit the call and their records, then realised they made an error.

At that point, Draymond realised it didn’t make sense he even tried to play with how ridiculous the calls were on the court.

Could this be why the Refs allowed the Cavs no chance of getting swept?

Game 5 will be played tonight at 8pm.

Maybe the brooms persons got can be used to sweep confetti. That is if and only if Steph Curry decides to show up because he legit choked on Friday night. Only KD showed up for the Warriors.

Will Curry and Klay relive the 3-1 nightmare of last year or will the road finally end for the Cavs tonight?

Unlikely Results at the French Open and Usain Bolt’s Final Race!

Favourite and no. 4 seed Simona Halep was upset by the unseeded Jelena Ostapenko. She beat Halep 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 and got a great Birthday present!

Ostapenko had beaten Timea Bacsinszky in the Semis, who had eliminated Venus Williams.

FRENCH OPEN Men’s Singles Semis

Stan Wawrinka came back from 2 sets down to beat the no. 1 Andy Murray, 6-7 (6), 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (3), 6-1. He will meet ‘the King of Klay’, Rafael Nadal in the Final who defeated Dominic Thiem in straight sets.

LeBron and the Cavs on the Brink of Getting Swept after Warriors beat them at Home to go up 3-0!

Despite LeBron James putting up 39 points and Kyrie Irving, 38, it just was not enough to beat the Warriors team. The Warriors beat them at home 118-113 last night to go up 3-0 in the series.

It was a close game throughout and the 3rd Quarter belonged to Kyrie Irving. But the new addition to the Kardashians, Tristan Thompson contributed zero for the entire game and Kevin Love missed too many shots. J.R. Smith contributed a few crucial 3-point shots but it jus wasn’t enough to surpass the fast-paced Warriors team. The Cavs were worn out after the 3rd Quarter.

The Cavs led by as much as 7 points in the 4th Quarter and as much as 6 points in the late part of the 4th Quarter.

What happened?!

With a combined 77 points between LeBron and Kyrie, neither of them were clutch. Kyrie missed a crucial 3-pointer that was a lazy shot, while he should have passed it to J.R who had a hot hand and made himself free. LeBron missed a driving lay-up in the late 4th and had his 3-point shot attempt blocked by Andre Iguodala with 12s left. He made the offensive rebound then stepped out of bounds resulting in a turnover with 10s left.

So as much as LeBron James fans hate to admit it, he isn’t clutch and remains a ‘Stats King’.

Who was Clutch?!

KD! KD broke the Cavs heart with a 3-point hook, line and sinker over LeBron James who didn’t even contest the shot with 45.3s remaining. KD scored 31 points and Klay Thompson and Steph Curry came up big with a few clutch shots of their own with 30 and 26 points respectively.

The Coaching

Props to Steve Kerr for managing and switching up the line up several times as Draymond Green kept getting into foul trouble.

Will there be a Sweep?

Yes. The Cavs are far too demoralised. They can’t manage the firepower, pace and tenacity of the Warriors this year.

After the Warriors messed up 73 wins last year, they are going for a record 16 straight post-season wins with no mercy and a ringless, past MVP, Kevin Durant is at their helm.
