A month ago, Suga Taster, Stephen Greig ventured up to the cool Blue Mountains on a Sunday, with visiting San Francisco based brother and fam to check out the fairly new, Blue Brews Bistro (Ig: @bluebrewsbistro) in Holywell National Park.
Here’s what he had to say!
The drive was relaxing with majestic views of the Blue Mountains and fresh air to open the appetite along the way.
Upon arrival at Holywell Park, we were directed to Blue Brews Bistro, which had quite a few patrons by 11am. I would recommend that you make a reservation in advance via their email if you have a large party. Kudos to Owner/Manager Jovan Yapp for his hospitality, accommodating our party of 6. The staff were also friendly and attentive.
The menu expectedly had variations of your favourite Blue Mountain Coffee, Burgers, Hot Dogs and Pastries. It was interesting to see that they had non-bistro fare including smoked Pork Chops, Steak & Fried Chicken.
Our party had Pumpkin Soup, Burgers with seasoned fries and more traditional Breakfast fare such as Eggs and Bacon.
We tried their “Brookie” for Dessert, a merger of a Cookie and Brownie along with fresh Lemongrass Lemonade too.
The food was satisfactory, but you really go for the drive and experience. Also, the view and the cool, salubrious surroundings, where you can even go for a walk around the park while waiting. The park museum is directly above the restaurant, so do check it out.
There wasn’t any traditional Jamaican cuisine offered, so if there was a recommendation, it would be to really have a more Jamaican experience. Definitely worth a visit though. Big up Blue Brews Bistro.

Coppers transitions from a cosy, casual outdoor setting to fine dining on the inside. The walls are adorned with fine art and your wine selection, then you’re seated with quality tableware.
Our server, Ovando was quite professional and attentive. It was New Year’s Eve, so we were also politely encouraged to select from their party favour offerings with a small contribution and to ring in the new year with them. The music was great, but we had other plans and we were extremely satisfied with our last meal of 2021.
For starters we had Cabernet Braised Oxtail Crisp and Calamari Ripieni. The Oxtail Crisp was divine. It was wine braised deboned Oxtail served in a warm, flaky puff pastry shell. The Oxtail was well seasoned and tender. While the Calamari Ripieni was definitely a different way to have Calamari! It was stuffed Calamari, lightly sauteed in Chardonnay, tomato sauce. Delicious.
We opted out of Dessert that we’ve had there before, but great way to end the year, dinner left us cheesing from ear to ear.

Two weeks ago Suga was delighted to try new treats by Pop Lab Confections (Ig: @poplabconfections) on Red Hills Road.
Their scrumptious Apple Pie, tasty Chocolate Chip Cookies, and delish Oreo Bread Pudding lit up my taste buds! They cater!
The Popsicles had a range of super fun flavours such as Chocolate Covered Cheesecake pops, Passion Mango & Piña Colada. All balanced flavours, nothing overpowering.
They are one of my new favourites for sweet treats and looking forward to having them on the next Suga Show 😉!
Excellent service, great packaging and store layout with an Artisan shelf too. Pop by Pop Lab Confections this weekend! #SugaEndorsed

WELL, Suga can show, but cannot tell. Hoping for a tasty experience next time at Holy Smokes (Ig: @holysmokesjamaica). But big up for offering local, Trouble’s Brewing (Ig: @troublesbrewing) Beer!
We had Soup, Curried Goat with roti, mashed potatoes and pressed plantain and also Jerked Chicken.
Love the refurbished, modern, comfortable setting.
Lots of potential for this new hot spot on Waterloo road.
Cheers to Friday Eve!

Suga was treated to V-Day Dinner at Trio Wine Bar and Grill (Ig; @triowinebar64) on Hope Road by Hubby last Sunday, early at about 5pm.
It is recommended to dine early or pre-celebrate occasions to avoid crowds or long waits at restaurants. So take note Gents.
We enjoyed ðŸ·Pepper Pumpkin Soup ðŸ·Trio’s Signature Wings ðŸ·Yardie Bruschetta ðŸ·Surf and Turf Trio ðŸ·Mussels in a Garlic & White Wine Broth
Our waitress, Shaniqua was fantastic! Courteous, knowledgeable, attentive and professional. Thanks Randy and Trio! 🥂

An Experience tailored to have you enjoy it each time in a different way, an enhanced way, a more appreciative way. I do miss the mix and mingle buffet style introduction with freshly made Cocktails, Chimichurri sauce and chips and much more. With Covid or taking precaution versus the weather, we sit at our designated tables and bask in the real, positive, loving, sexy energy, that is Chris, Lisa and their staff in front of their newly renovated open kitchen.
Have you met Romyah (Ig: @romyahj) ?! Such a bright, young, wild and free spirit. Check her for your Wine Pairings. Loveeee the more active roll she is taking in the experience, introducing her own course and items on the menu. She introduces Pumpkin and greens like a Surf and Turf.
For those who keep asking, Yes, expect sustainable, luxury Vegetarianism. So of course you’ll be satisfied. Do you go on a long tour or experience in the late afternoon and skip Breakfast? No. Just don’t have a heavy one. Their most adorable dogs are part of the family that have the courtesy not to come around you while you eat, but will walk by your side or nearby as you tour the farm.
I enjoyed every course, where new items are always included for returning visitors and according to the season as well. This epicurean getaway is as Farm to Table as it gets.
Their Plantain Chips and Chimichurri, NYC style Fyah Grilled Pizzas and Nola Beignets are usually pleasurable, signature staples.
I am so happy that I experienced my most recent visit with my high school girlfriends mid January. Jody Dixon (Ig: @ajamaicanjo) descibed it as ‘beautiful storytelling nourished with orgasmically, gastronomical eats’.
If you aren’t traveling during Covid, travel through food with Lisa and Chris at Stush in the Bush. When are you going?! Without a doubt, continuously #SugaEndorsed.
