Suga introduces you to Suga Taster, Taraja Jackson!
Taraja is a Civil Engineer/ Military Officer and her favourite dish is anything with Pork! Her favourite casual place to eat in Kingston is Triple T’s Eatery and Miss T’s Kitchen for out of town. For special occasions, she visits Ivan’s Bar & Restaurant out of town and frequently goes to Tamarind Indian Cuisine in Kingston.
Taraja enjoys globe trotting and has hit quite a few countries already including Spain, Belgium, Turkey, Greece, Italy, the Czech Republic and more. However, she says the country she has travelled to with the best food, is Peru.
According to Taraja, the character trait that declares her as a certified foodie is that she eats and cooks for entertainment!
Suga Taster, Taraja Jackson’s Ratings for Bellefield Restaurant and Bar
Date and time of visit: October 23, 2019 (Lunch time)
Nestled in the hills of Fairfield, Montego Bay, Chef Robert Joseph’s Bellefield Restaurant and Bar at Bellefield Great House was a pleasant lunch time surprise. They had a wide selection of items on their menu, however the group chose to select from the lunch time special menu, which was reasonably priced at $1000JMD per person to include a small Soup of choice and an Entree.
The service was excellent. We were greeted at the entrance and seated immediately. The server was courteous and highlighted all the specials for the day. I selected the Vegetarian Pumpkin Soup topped with roasted coconut shavings, which boosted the flavour of the soup. It was quite tasty.
The Entree did not arrive right away, but the group was distracted by basking in the pleasant ambience of the estate. We had Island Style Fried Chicken served with rice and peas and roasted vegetables. Other options were Chicken Penne Pesto, Whole Red Snapper with fries and Jerk Grilled Chicken with rice and peas/Baked Potato.
The portions were adequate and the Chicken was fried crispy to perfection with a delicious Bbq sauce on the side.
Bellefield Restaurant is in the Savoury Category ($2800JMD) for Restaurant week that starts today and ends on November 17! Give them a try!

ETARU Hallandale has dining by the terrace and an indoor/outdoor cocktail bar that specializes in contemporary Japanese Robatayaki-style cuisine. Robatayaki is when food is cooked at varying speeds over hot charcoal similar to barbecue.
Upon arriving to the restaurant, valet parking was smooth with a USD$13 charge. We were then directed to the hostess who had our reservation for three requesting outdoor seating several days prior. However, she apologized that there were no available tables outside. Once seated inside, our server, Vasiliki B. presented us with the dinner and drink menus, informed us about the cuisine offered including the fact that everything was a la carte, gave us a few minutes and then returned to take our orders.
Two servings of Pork Dumplings were requested, but one had to be sent back because a member of our party was allergic to sesame seeds. The server apologized for not asking about any allergies, as she was in a rush to get our orders in before the kitchen got extremely busy.
The downfalls with this restaurant were that a few of the dishes lacked flavour, which was appeased by the sauces they were served with. Also, the wait time, as we did not complete our meals until about 10:40pm after getting there at 7:30 pm.
The fried chicken lacked flavour. It seemed as if no salt or pepper was added to the batter, but the sauce was rich and had hints of lemon zest.
The Pork Dumplings were tasty, but lacked an adequate serving of ponzu sauce to have all the flavours truly marry together.
The Grilled Chicken was seasoned well and reminded me a bit of ‘Pan Chicken’ from home (Jamaica). The lemon saikyo sauce had the perfect consistency and provided a burst of flavour from the various oriental spices.
The Baked potato had too much garnish and not enough yuzu soft cheese, so Suga Taster, Jehan was unable to fully appreciate the combo.
The Lamb Chops were cooked medium, with a succulent slide off the bones with each taste. The pairing of the Korean spices and the sesame cucumbers were on point.
The Broccolini was blanched perfectly, but I would have peferred if the sauce had been evenly dispersed.
The Steak was cooked medium well as ordered. The wasabi chimichurri sauce added the right amount of heat to the steak.
This dessert option was on point and satisfied our sweet tooth well!

Juniper on the Water offers valet parking and has both indoor and outdoor dining, but I can’t see why you would pass up the stellar views by the water to dine indoors.
They specialise in Seafood and offer happy hour daily, dinner nightly and weekend brunch.
Our server was a bit quick on taking away the menus each time, but other than that, she was polite and quite attentive.
Serving sizes were more than generous, as some mains could be shared for two. The seafood was fresh and the dishes were flavourful. We all enjoyed our appetizers and main courses, except for the Seared Red Snapper Fillet. Jamaicans tend to prefer Saltwater fish versus Freshwater fish and appreciate a bit more seasoning.
Appetizers
The Mussels were fantastic. It could be shared amongst our party of 4.
Entrees
The Cioppino (USD $38) (Not photographed) that was a Gulf shrimp, mussels, clams, Atlantic cod, lobster meat Seafood Stew served with grilled bread was delightful as well.
Their signature Seafood Paella lived up to its prestigious reputation. It was a steamy burst of flavour that I thoroughly enjoyed.
There was no room for Dessert, but Juniper on the Water is #SugaEndorsed.
