The Food Network and Cooking Channel’s South Beach Wine & Food Festival in Miami!

South Beach is where it all went down for Foodies and Wine enthusiasts last weekend at the 17th annual Food Network and Cooking Channel’s South Beach Wine & Food Festival (SOBEWFF)!

It was a 5-day destination event in Miami from February 21-25, showcasing the talents of the world’s most renowned wine and spirits’ producers, chefs and culinary personalities. Guy Fieri, Bobby Flay, Emeril and more were there!

The Festival had many high-end events, including elaborate dinners and brunches, but also had events that costed less than $100US to attend. Whichever patrons chose, it definitely looked like value for money. The Festival is also for a good cause, as it benefits the Chaplin School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at Florida International University (FIU) and the Southern Wine & Spirits Beverage Management Center.

Over 1000 students get the opportunity to work at the Festival each year and the experience they gain is invaluable for their future in the hospitality field.

To date, the Festival has raised more than $26 million US for the School.

Let me show you a few of Suga’s favourite teasers that should have been palate pleasers. You can also note the Restaurants responsible to pay them a visit soon in Miami!

Topping things off with Dessert!

There were cascading doughnuts, gelato in probably every flavour and more at SOBEWFF.

Suga’s friends and others that went to the Festival said there was every kind of food and wine you could think of, an absolutely gastronomical, star-studded, international event.

If you missed the Festival this year like myself, you should definitely put it on your calendar for 2019!

The non-profit organization, Rotaract Club of Kingston, also known as the youth arm of Rotary, in particular the Rotary Club of Kingston, has a major education project this year. The goal is to assist select schools in reaching the criteria for full recognition as Early Childhood Institutes by the Early Childhood Commission.

Knowing that 12 standards matter, the Rotaract Club of Kingston completed the first phase by donating chairs, desks and learning aids to the St. Barnabas Basic School of Fletcher’s Land on January 30, 2018.

Kudos to the Rotaract Club of Kingston and the Early Childhood Commission for helping to develop Jamaica’s early childhood education!

Today’s spotlight hails from Kingston, Jamaica! I tease Gabrielle all the time because I seriously don’t know what she can’t do. Read how she’s managed to escape to her creative side while still working in the hardworking medical field.

Growing up, I always wanted to be a Doctor (Obstetrician) and do Art on the side. I eventually realized that even though the income would be great after the initial struggle of paying off a hefty student loan, I would not have the time on my hands that I would desire to be the Free Spirit that I am. I still entered the field of Health Care as a Radiologic Technologist. It’s a skill and I enjoy the field. But it wasn’t enough for me as a young adult who just started working in 2010, that used to be the President of at least 2 service Clubs, while sitting on the committee of others, also engaging in modern dance and other sporting activities. I felt like I also started life 3 years behind my high school peers who did not do a 2nd Degree and who were fortunate enough to have their parents pay their way through tertiary education for them. While I had not one, but two degrees worth of Student Loans.

My walls were empty when I moved out on my own into my apartment and I said, ‘Why buy paintings when I can paint them myself?’. I officially started my company, GW Art with seasonal Collections, that has grown so much since then and still has some way to go.
I started to help a friend train her Boot camp (aerobics) class in 2011 too. She had to leave the country for a year and I did so well administering and training classes that I eventually branched out on my own. I got certified in both Personal Training and Sports Nutrition. After a timid start to do this on my own, I thrived by seeing positive results in my clients and being a part of and changing person’s lives. I am now confident and in demand in the Fitness Industry in Jamaica.

I currently find ways to express my 3 fields along with Hobbies, which include Restaurant Reviews, Sports and more on my Website, www.sugalifestyle.com. This continuously inspires me and makes me feel like I can branch out even more! #blackentrepreneurship #blackexcellence

It was like Spa Day and a Health Fair all in one for Downtown’s Homeless last Saturday at the Marie Atkins Shelter.

The homeless had their Medicals done, Teeth cleaned by the Jamaica Dental Students’ Association, Hair groomed by the Kingston Central Police Division and Kumeas Hair Perspective and Eyes tested by the Lion’s Club of Mona.

The National Council for Senior Citizens signed up eligible persons for Senior Citizen IDs as well.

Canned food was donated to the Shelter and Clothing and Care Packages including Toothpaste, Toothbrushes, Soap etc. were distributed to the members of the Homeless Community of Downtown, Kingston.

Kudos to the New Kingston Rotaract Club for hosting a day that surely should have made an impact on the lives of many Homeless persons. Of course they couldn’t have done it all on their own. Many Organizations joined efforts for the cause.

Kudos to their Partners: Kingston Central Police Division, Jamaica Medical Doctors Association, Jamaica Dental Students’ Association, Lion’s Club of Mona, Kumeas Hair Perspective, National Council for Senior Citizens, Calabar Interact Club, St. George’s Interact Club.

Thanks and Praises to their Sponsors: National Health Fund, Optimum Trading Ltd, Food for the Poor, Jamaica Producers, Jamaica Hospital Supplies, Tanya’s Body Care, Kirk Distributors, Rotary Club of New Kingston, Federated Pharmaceuticals, Dental and Medical Supplies Ltd.

Follow The New Kingston Rotaract Club on Instagram, @nkrcjamaica and see how you can join the Club, participate or donate to their Projects. Help to Build a Better Jamaica.

One Jamaica. One Love.
